I’m mailing supplementary LoRs to some schools that did not give an option to do this on the Common App. Since supplementary LoRs do not show up on a school’s portal, should we send them an email to verify with them that they have received it? Or do we just assume that it got there safely?
Do those schools allow supplementary LoR’s? If yes, you can follow up, but personally, I’m a big proponent of just let the people do their job. YMMV.
If they didn’t allow it on the CommonApp, I fail to see why they would accept them if you mailed them.
The colleges are Yale, Princeton, and Amherst and they all allow supplemental recommendations to be sent.
From Yale’s website:
If you feel the need to submit extra information, you may ask one additional recommender to write on your behalf.
From Princeton’s website:
Additional letters are only helpful if the person writing the recommendation knows the candidate well and can provide new, detailed information.
