My S has been admitted as a dual major to Whitman/Newhouse. He was also awarded a Whitman Scholar merit award which was quite generous but still makes Syracuse a bit over budget. Do you think there is any chance that Newhouse would award additional merit? It’s small amount needed ~ $5k/year. I wasn’t sure how to approach. Syracuse is S first choice.
Did you get your financial aid yet? My S was awarded a generous financial aid grant in addition to the merit award. SU was the most generous in need based grant than any other school S applied to,
@crazymamaB when did you get your Ss financial aid package? We are still waiting, anxiously, for Ds FA package…
We didn’t get financial aid yet. I doubt we will qualify but you never know.
@mommabear67 My son is a Freshman at SU but last year he got his financial aid package shortly after his acceptance. It may even have been later that same day. Check your MySlice; I do not remember if we got an email or not. I do know some folks who were able to negotiate with the school. Don’t be afraid to ask for more money, worse case they say no.
@mommabear67 thank you. I’ll check right away.
@mommabear67 Do you know who those folks negotiated with? Was it the FA office, or did they contact admissions?
@MSMDAD I think your question was meant for @crazymamaB …
@loveagoodmovie My understanding is you can appeal. I think it is worth talking to Syracuse for additional merit scholarship if you don’t get any financial aid. If it is the first choice, I would say it is worth trying, the worse is they would say no. Good Luck and keep us posted how it goes!
@MSMDAD I would start with the FA office. I don’t recall which office they went through but they did receive a significant increase in award.
