Is this allowed for the freshman application? (In addition to the required teacher and counselor rec.) Thanks guys (:

I was actually wondering this too. I would think that you could be able to. I can't imagine it hurting your application.

I sent in an extra one. Just don't send in like more than 5 of them and you'll be fine.

This question always come up at the different open houses and the colleges always say really to only send in the required amount. They have so many applications to read and this just adds to the already heavy task of their "reading season."

I don't think it's a good idea. NYU receives so many applications - they already read 3 letters of recc from each person, they don't need a 4th letter describing how you're 'a really special person who is hardworking and capable!' .

last year the adcom I spoke to said not too...he was pretty ****y about it and the nyu website had a blurb where a kid wrote in asking the same thing about additional letters and was tols something glib like part of the application process is following instructions that goes for number of recommendation letters as well as essay lengths "don't think that you found a better way to do it."

Another adcom I spoke to (nicer about it) said that they'll only read one, so if one is GREAT and one is VERY GOOD you are taking a risk. That's my advice, would you be OK with them randomly selecting only one?

Since the ONE HAS to be a teacher rec, and if the other is eC related...might be risky

That said, plenty of people last year sent the two teacher recs accidentally because the Common Ap actually is built for two, and plenty got in!
