Additional Recommendation Letters

I have applied to undergraduate studies of Yale, Columbia, Stanford, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, Cornell, and UPenn. My volunteer organization wrote a letter of recommendation for me. How can my organization send this letter to office? Do they have to include any specific information in the letter (I already know Yale's policy)? Can the letter still be sent after the application deadline? If so, for how long?
Also, for the SAT section on my COMMONAPP. I only listed one SAT test date since I thought they only wanted the dates of superscored scores. I took the SAT twice and improved in all my sections the second time. I'm worried that this error will affect me. I only understood that some of these universities required all the scores when sending in my SAT scores.

You can give your him or her the address of the school’s general office. If your referee has prepared a reference letter for you, make sure to tell him or her the closing date of app.

Please “REMEMBER”, affix official seal if possible. Some schools will mark down those which is not “PERFECTLY SEAL” (I worked in the university’s general office when I was studying in my summer break, such request is to ensure the reference letter is directly sent from the referee:without “being open”)

For your first question I’ll use Stanford as an example. Stanford’s process for an additional letter of recommendation is (from Stanford’s web site):

The mailing address is:

Office of Undergraduate Admission
Stanford University
Montag Hall
355 Galvez Street
Stanford, CA 94305-6106

Note that it is important that the letter clearly identifies who you are: name, birth date, current school. Adding the common app ID (as Stanford suggests) is always a good idea. With 30,000+ applications it’s best to make sure that they file the recommendation properly.

You can easily get the admissions office addresses for your other colleges through your favorite search engine.

For your second question, what really matters are the official SAT scores that come from the College Board. I assume that you’ve had the College Board send them.

The letter can be sent after the deadline but they should to it promptly: Since the schools aren’t expecting an extra letter, it is possible that they will mark you application ‘complete’ without it and review it before the letter is received. They are unlikely to reopen your file if a decision has already been made just because an extra rec showed up.

Also, make sure you talk to your nonprofit supervisor about rec letters. The quality can vary tremendously. This isn’t something they do often (more common is a letter of rec for a former employee) so they may appreciate some guidance on what needs to be in your letter. For example, a statement that compares your contribution, initiative, etc… to their other volunteers, might be helpful. Or a rec that includes quantifiable impact: number of clients served, dollars raised, measurable outcomes…

Is it okay if I send both and mail just to be sure. Or will sending the same thing twice affect me negatively? Yeah, I think I’m being paranoid.
