Additional Recommendation

My boss/mentor would like to give me a college recommendation and since there is no way to send a third reference to brown (there is no form for it), what’s the best way to do this? I’m applying for PLME and have my two teacher references already in order. Would it be detrimental to send this third recommendation?

How exactly should this rec be sent? Just a written letter of recommendation mailed directly to the universities I’m applying to (such as brown)? (If somebody could explain to me how recs work in general I’d greatly appreciate it! I don’t understand if the teacher is to write a letter if they’ve already filled out 4A or 4B, and how they send their rec to the university for my application)

Sorry… just a bit confused on this part.

You can send in supplemental recommendations. If an existing form is relevant, you can use that and just cross out 4A or 4B and write "supplemental recommendation." You also should mention somewhere on your application that you are sending in supplemental information. I don't remember the Brown application offhand, but you can work out a place to put it.

If the form doesn't work, your boss/mentor could write a letter. Just make sure that it has sufficient identifying information on it. You could include this with your application or have her/him send it directly to Brown.

I don't see why it would be detrimental if the recommendation adds something. Brown isn't one of those places (that I've seen!) that says don't send in more than we ask for.

Often teachers just write "see attached letter" on the recommendation form and attach a copy of a letter they've written. It saves work on multiple and sometimes inconsistent forms. But it really is up to the teachers how they choose to go about this.

How you handle things is to give a copy of all the forms to your teachers, together with stamped envelopes to the schools.
