Some colleges allow applicants to submit additional recommendations to tell the AOs something that is not said of the applicants in the required two recommendations. I wonder, what are some of the things that could be written in the additional recommendations?

And since Common Application only requires two, how do we submit the additional one?

The third one could address a different academic interest of the student. For instance, there is a poster here on CC who is going into engineering and is submitting 2 LORs from science teachers. He is also very interested in English and writing and is sending in a supplemental LOR from an English teacher.

The supplemental rec may also come from someone outside of school, for instance an employer that can talk about your work ethic or other aspects of your personality or interests.

My supplemental recommendation is coming from my Journalism teacher. He knows me very well. We have worked together for two years, the newspaper requires a significant extracurricular time commitment, and I'm the editor in chief so I do a lot of work with him like planning lectures, grading, etc. His recommendation will really address my leadership qualities more than my academic qualities, so that's why I'm sending it in as an additional rec.
