additional recommendations: to do or not to do; Gateway vs hard copy

On recommendations, if my D has an additional recommendation (from current science teacher), and Gateway doesn't allow to file an additional recommendation through their system, would it be okay to mail a hard copy in to the schools? Or should D replace the personal recommendation (from current extra curricular advisor) with the current science teacher? I've read in various places how one extra rec is okay, and can even use another school's form, but on PA''s message from Dean of Admissions, she writes not to send extra materials in. Any help is much appreciated.
thanks so much

As I read this passage, and the rest of the Journal entry, I recommend that you proceed with caution in submitting extra materials. On no account should you replace the personal recommendation with the current science teacher. (Parent opinion) Remember, a boarding school keeps students on campus 24/7. How a student functions outside of the classroom is very important.

If your daughter has not had her interview yet, you might ask this question in the parent section of the interview. Or, send her interviewer an email.

The Dean’s Journal is very clear on the point, though.

thanks so much periwinkle. i was a bit confused as i’ve read on how others put in additional recs. perhaps for other schools D is applying to, aside from PA, she’ll do that. tks!
