Additional scholarship money

My DS was accepted into UB, UPItt and OHio States engineering program, all three honors colleges. We live in NY and received $5,000 merit bringing total cost to around $17,000, for UB. Ohio State has offered $17,000 in merit, bringing total cost to $22,000. UPItt $10,000 in merit bringing cost to $36,000. DS really loved Pitt, any chance we can negotiate with them to come down in cost. Just can’t justify such a huge cost difference.

Please contact our office and ask to speak to an admissions counselor, they can talk with you about options you may have. 412-624-7488.

Yes, I think there is a cost analysis you can request.

We are in a similar situation! This is so difficult! My son also received the $5000/yr award to UB Honors, and it is really tempting to be drawn to the price tag ($17,000!) and quality of the program. We are from NY as well. He also got into Stony Brook, UD (significant $), URI International Engineering Program- Honors College (significant $), and more. Still waiting on Bing and WPI! However, my son really likes Pitt, but we only got $7000/yr (he applied quite late). Would love to hear from others about asking for additional money, and just whether it was worth the extra expense. Thanks!

My DD is in-state. Pitt is her #1 choice, but, unfortunately, she received the lowest merit aid from Pitt. We filed an appeal. The form can be found here. https://www.oafa.pitt.edu/pdf/CostAnalysisWorksheet.pdf We are still waiting to hear. Good luck to you @pjm1234 and @lmjean!

Thanks, @PhilaSkiMom for that form. We’re in the same boat. Pitt is one of my son’s top choices, and to date, have received no notification of merit aid of any kind.

He’s received merit awards from each of his other school’s where he’s been accepted, and several of those included honor’s invitations.

He’s 35 ACT composite, 1510 SAT, top 7% of his class with all honors/AP and a ~3.8 unweighted GPA (the weighted GPA escapes my memory at the moment).

Just remember if they applied to Swanson, last year the freshman class was 300 students there. By this time they would have received lots of applications from engineering majors with 35 ACT.

So if Pitt is your top choice you also need to apply early.

Engineering is very competitive, for admission and merit.

@mommdc, you’re correct he did apply for Swanson. His application was submitted on 12/10. Perhaps not early enough :-(.

Pitt is in his top 3…
