Additional Updates After Midyear Report Is Sent

Okay, so my guidance counselor submitted my midyear report saying that I have no major updates to report. The day after, I get a letter saying that I've just won a very prestigious scholarship. Now, I'm Canadian, and the scholarship is also only tenable at a Canadian university, but it's very prestigious nevertheless and says a lot about your achievements. I mean, thousands apply and only 50 get it. The criteria is based on your ECs, leadership, creativity, character, community service, etc. - basically, everything Yale looks at aside from GPA and SAT scores. Would it help if I told them of this update? (My GPA and test scores are very stellar but my ECs, while certainly competitive, is in no way super super outstanding. Would it help if I won a very major award for ECs and leadership?)

Also, if I were to inform Yale of this update, can I just email them or mail them a letter? Do I need to provide any proof (like the actual scholarship offer sheet) or will they just take my word for it?

P.S. When I told my guidance counselor of this update, she said that she'll include it in her next midyear report. Now my (Canadian) school is semestered and when she sent her midyear report last week she only had my semester one final marks. Usually, for universities in Canada, guidance counselors send another updated transcript when semester two midterm marks come out, in late March or early April. However, I've never heard of anyone submitting TWO midyear reports, and I'm fairly certain that we're not supposed to. I mean, decisions come out April 1st, and I doubt the second midyear report my guidance counselor wants to send will do any good. Should I just inform Yale of this update myself?

I would definitely let Yale know of the update! Write a letter clearly identifying yourself and detailing your scholarship win. Fax the letter to 203-777-6120, it’s the number for the admissions office that will get the update into your file the fastest! Congrats on your achievement!

For sending the update, I hope this thread helps:
