Which school has the stronger computer science program? I plan on continuing onto grad school and adelphi makes it easier getting into columbia, but where can i get a better education?

Hofstra’s CS course offerings appear to be somewhat more extensive than Adelphi’s CS course offerings:

Thanks for the info, is there anyone else out there who has attended hofstra or adelphi that can give me first hand knowledge?

As a student who went to both Hofstra and Adelphi for a B.S. in Computer Science, I feel that I may be of help. Hofstra definitely has the stronger academics… by far. Hofstra has a reasonably staffed department (Which is being expanded because they recently added a school of engineering and computer science.) I feel that Hofstra has high standards for their program. Hofstra’s math department seems decent too, which is important because you will be taking some math courses as a computer science major. Overall I feel that Hofstra’s program is fine. Adelphi on the other hand only has 3 professors that teach computer science. The department is a merged computer science / mathematics department. If Adelphi needs someone else to teach a course, they hire adjuncts. A lot of the time they just have one of the 3 professors teach a course that they don’t specialize in. Adelphi has limited course selection per semester. If you miss an elective it may not run again for another 2 years. Math offerings aren’t the most rigorous and there isn’t a ton of variety there either. I feel that the computer science program isn’t rigorous. Compare the two of the colleges. Adelphi is more laid back and Hofstra is not. I have heard good things about the Honors college program at Adelphi, but that doesn’t make the computer science program any better. Hofstra had better resources (Better dedicated computer science labs) than Adelphi (Pretty small, and often locked computer science lab) There are some great professors at Adelphi who will run an awesome class, but the academics as a whole don’t feel “there”.

great info, greatly appreciated. I will be attending the accepted students day this Saturday. Once again, thanks!
