So I'm a senior and I have an awful GPA clocking in at a 2.5

I already sent off my application with two stellar essays I proofread over and over and had my english teacher look at. I also have some good letters of recommendation. Also, I have a 28 super scored ACT and I'll be retaking it tomorrow. I am also a two sport varsity athlete. I am hispanic and I found out I have ADHD recently, one of the reasons my grades are so low. For the past year, I achieved honor roll every semester, but It's been hard for four years without medication. I want to get into the engineering and applied sciences school. I also take engineering and AP classes at my high school.

I talked to my admission counselor and she said that if I get accepted, which could be a good chance, they may put me on a 5 year plan.

So the questions are, what are your thoughts on my chances? and also, does anyone know if there are ways to test out of a five year plan?

I truly feel for you – and your GC is an expert, I’m not – but that 2.5 GPA is (in my opinion) a substantial admissions barrier (I sincerely hope I am wrong). However, your past year’s grades seem to indicate you’ve resolved the earlier problems. Therefore, if you’re not admitted, I wonder if Colorado CCs have guaranteed admission and credit transfer agreements with CU. If so, you might want to consider a year or two at a local CC, thereby saving considerable money, and eventually earning the same CU degree. Good luck.

I’ve heard of students from my CO HS with similar GPAs to yours being admitted to CU-Boulder. However, I think some of them were either admitted on academic probation or on the five year plan, as you mentioned. Hope this helps; Good luck!
