adjusted grading scale 94-100=A vs. 90-100=A?

My son goes to a high school where 94-100 = A. But all the other surrounding schools are on a 10 point scale 90-100=A. Guidance counselor says the schools grading scale is printed at top of transcript. However, how does the admissions make adjustment on his stricter grading scale verses other applicants with a 10 point scale?

they might not necessarily “adjust” it, but instead keep in their mind the rigor of your son’s grading scale when comparing him with other applicants.

Well GPA’s among schools aren’t really comparable, except maybe 4.0’s. That’s why college’s look at class rank, rigor of schedule, and the rigor of the school (they usually ask counselors to subjectively rate the curriculum compared to other schools and give quantifiable information like how many of each graduating class go to college and their graduation rates and whatnot).

A 3.6 at a prep school means a lot more than a 3.6 at an urban high school where less than 30% of the class goes to college. So I’d say not to worry since colleges do take into consideration a composite view of a student’s transcripts.
