Is there any possible way I could adjust my sleeping rhythm to 4~5 hours a night, while having full energy?

if I just sleep for 4 hours a night all summer, will that adjust my sleep rhythm?

The human body requires at least 7-8 hours a night. You’ll find you can pull it off for a few days, but eventually you’ll be ridiculously tired and end up sleeping 12+ hours.

Don’t do it. Or else you’ll be sleeping 10-12 hours everyday for a few weeks like I’ve been doing.

Is there a reason you’re trying to do this?

If you find a healthy and happy way of pulling this off…please post. I think a lot of people are looking for this resolution!

Ever hear the comment, “There are never enough hours in a day”???
Hmmmm…I wonder why people say that?!

I wouldn’t recommend shorting yourself that sleep if you want to function properly!!!

Why would you want to?

If you sleep around 1pm ish to 4pm, it would work kinda. But you wouldn’t have full energy

I don’t get what you guys are saying. In the school year, I’m totally cool with 4-6 hours a night. Six is the best, but 5 is probably the usual. It’s bad if I get down to 3.5. I never get incredibly tired and have to sleep 10-12 hours a night. I don’t drink coffee every morning, though I admit I cannot rarely resist a frappucino when I find myself at an airport or a Barnes and Noble, so it’s not like I’m keeping myself awake with drugs. You just do what you must.
I have a refresher in the middle of most days most, when I guess most people might start to fall apart and take a nap. I go to ballet, and then after that I’m so awake.

4 is pretty good, 3 is the sort of line where it’s a little iffy, and 2 is when youreally start dozing off.

Personally I think allnighters are better except you’ll have a major crash around 10 or 11 (in my personal experience) and you’ll feel like a total zombie after that until you sleep again.

Red bull, coffee, calorie soda (I’m saying calorie because coke zero etc don’t work after a few weeks. then again if this is short term they’re good.)
pinch yourself a lot. I did this in MUN during roll calls.

Maybe the OP just wants to party all the time.

Fully functioning on 4-5 hours of sleep just seems really improbable. I went to school everyday on that, but I was definitely not even close to fully functioning. I always struggled to stay awake in all of my classes.

During the school year, when I play a sport, I need at least 10 hours to function properly, otherwise I begin to fall asleep in class and my ADD goes really whacko.

When I’m not playing a sport during the school year, I only need like 8 hours.

During the summer, I only need 6-7 hours. But that’s because I don’t do anything.

I’ve been sleeping 4 hours for my whole high school career, 6-7 on weekends.

Its become a habit due to my WoW obsession as well as gaming hobby, so getting that 4 hours of sleep was needed to fuel. I don’t know, its hard to describe. I don’t feel tired at all most of the time, just make sure to take a power nap at 3 PM or 6PM for 30 minutes. That is a huge refresher tip for me. Found that out my sophomore year, and never felt better.

I also had tennis, so tennis practice >> power nap >> homework >> 9 hours of gaming >> school.

During the school year, I normally go to bed around 2am and I woke up around 6:30. I hated getting up, but during the day I was not tired at all.

Now it is summer and I get up at 9-10pm. I still stay up until 2am off habit. I normally read until that time.

I think you can do it no problem. It will take awhile to get use to, but you may develop a habit. Why would you want to do this though? I wish I could get to sleep by 12. =

It’s called polyphasic sleep. You sleedp 20 min every 4 hours (if this can fit in your schedule), but then only 2 hours every night. It takes 10 days to get into though…and beware…they are a VERY DIFFICULT ten days. You will need a ton of self control and discipline.

people have reported
-more alertness

good luck, it will be very very hard though

Well, I guess as long as you’re getting all your needed REM sleep, you should be fine… maybe.

I wish I could do this:( But being an athlete means it would never work… For those of you who can manage it, I’m insanely jealous, but more power to you

Try it. I sleep 4-6 hours a night and I dance 2.5 hours a day, 4 days a week, sometimes more. I find the physical exertion more refreshing than tiring.

^I have tried it. I was just insanely busy with things this fall and had no options. But when my schedule opened up I slept for like 3 straight weeks… and it was awful for my body. I’m okay for all-nighters/2-6 hours for the first day or two, but after that my tennis really suffers. Oh well, it’s a nice thought though

There was a boy on here before that did biphasic for a while…

well see, the thing that’s good is that it doesn’t take THAT long to get into a polyphasic lifestyle (7-14 days). Somebody should do it as a science experiment

It’s really really counterproductive to stay up late. Any gain in “studying” made by the extra time you get will be easily offset by the diminished mental capacity you’ll suffer because of sleep deprivation. I sleep roughly 10 hours every day. Even if I have homework. If I have homework I haven’t finished or a book I haven’t read, then it just doesn’t get done. This prioritization has been surprisingly successful for me.
