Adjustments to college for nonpartying people?

"As far as things to do outside of drinking/partying there are clubs as mentioned, and also if you are staying in a dorm there are probably night activities on Fridays and Saturdays that usually involve free food, prizes, or just hanging out with people that live in your building. In any case good luck, and hopefully you find something fun and enjoyable to do at college. "

This is true. I go to the same school as OP, and in my dorm last year there were occasionally things going on in the dorms. Movie nights, game nights, and we even had some sort of a masquerade dance last year. I didn’t participate in any of them but there were tons of people who did. That’s just another one of the zillions of ways to meet people here. If you are at all interested in any of the learning community thingies (residential college, global scholars program, cheever program, lloyd writing program etc) those are fabulous ways to make friends at michigan, too, and a way to secure that you get into the dorm you want.

At Clemson, we have a program called ClemsonLiVE that puts on fun events for students intentionally on thursday, friday and saturday nights so people have an alternative to the party scene.

I’m sure most colleges have something like this as well.

^You’re right, I forgot all about umix. I believe it’s every friday night, which is an event held at the Union. I am told they have music, food, games, etc. I meant to go all the time last year but always forgot about it. There are frequent movie nights, lectures, concerts, etc all over campus, too, but you’ve got to keep your eye out for fliers and chalk ads (yes, we promote things with sidewalk chalk) to find out about them.

^haha we promote stuff with newsletters posted on bathroom stalls. It’s called “The Toilet Paper”

I have nothing against drinking or partying. I’ve tried both, they’re just not things I’m into, that’s simply how it is.
Thank you everyone for the continued posts! I’m feeling a little more ready to face university life. I’ll make sure to take most of your guy’s advice while I’m there!

pierre-- I believe I have seen,“The Stall Street Journal.”
