Does anyone know an approximate percentage of deferred ED and ID applicants that get admitted under RD? Also, has the general number of applicants increased or decreased compared to last year?

^ That's for 2003, where 35 deferred students from Interim Decision were accepted Regular Decision, and 6 from Early Decision.

I'm also curious to know the percentage.

hmm...

oh well...

i love my rice poo bear...hehehe ok, i am being weird.

goodluck everyone..decision time is near...yay!

owlgirl

For ED, that's 1.80% (6 out of 333)

For ID, 1.63% (35 out of 2142)

and i bet, Rice's increasing reputation and its awesome atmosphere and education, their application pool would have increased as well.

i am in the same boat(Deferred from ID), and those statistics truly discourage me. darn.

owlgirl, I haven't seen you around lately until now. :D

dreaming, where did you get the 2142 and 333 numbers? I can't seem to find them. Thanks.

Surprisingly, the ID and ED applicant pools shrunk significantly this year; this is largely because (I think) of the nonbinding EA programs at Yale and Harvard.

2142 people were deferred??

what is important to remember is that they don't pick admissions from the deferral pool by drawing names from a hat. to have a good chance, i think you ought to have added to your file some extra materials and, most importantly, be better than the RD applicants. show interest and improvement. you can be one of those 6 or so people. i sent in another letter of recommendation (this time from an english teacher) and a personal letter, url below:

Aww...your letter is so cute. If I was on the admissions committee, I would accept you. I'm not exactly sure what they look for though. Good luck!!

Oh that's a very nicely-written letter. You seem like a really focused person, and you are sure about the place you want to go for college. Good luck, and I hope you get admitted in April.

sunkist, did you send in any extra material?

I'm ashamed. Not yet because I'm afraid. I'm definitely getting it done this week though. I keep thinking of things to write and then throwing one idea out after another. I'm not very good at wording my feelings. How about you?

dang, your letter is way better than mine. Best of luck to you!

o wow...you guys actually sent extra stuff to rice after being deferred...i definitely didn't, but good luck to you all, and macksimum i think that letter is more than enough to redeem yourself :-)

I did not mention the Residential College System once in my application; I have visited Rice on an uncountable number of occasions and I was aware of the system, yet I did not explicate the fact that I want to be a part of it.

:smacks self on forehead:

hey icymoon!! oh i have been staying away...you know...i dont want to scare ppl off :X

hopefully everything will be awesome come april :)

wow, why is the acceptance rate for RD sooooooo much lower than ID? is ID more self-selective, or do they think ID people care more than RD and only want the best of the best out of RD?

didn't mention the residential system either.
in the words of a rice college counselor that i talked to, ED and ID have higher admit rates due to the greater competitiveness and quality of the applicant pool...how true that is i really don't know.

only time will tell. my birthday is right around when decisions are made, so it will make the moment more memorable one way or the other, that's for sure.

I hope you are aware that they requested any supplemental materials (including letters) be submitted by March 1st, and that they'll be in their final decision making round next week. I wrote a letter and had my consoler and math teachers send additional reccomendation. My letter was very similar to the one published.

bump................
