Admission and Interview

Hi everyone! I am new to the forum - joined just today :)
I am applying to Harvey Mudd for 2012 session for engineering as an international applicant. I have recently been contacted by the college for an interview with Thyra Briggs. Can anyone please give me any valuable information about interviews, Thyra Briggs, what to expect etc. ?

Thanks! :)

Welcome to the process! I’m the parent of an about-to-be-freshman. Thyra is a very nice person - and very welcoming and friendly.
The interview is a two way process - a way for Mudd to learn about you and you to learn about Mudd. Come with some questions that you can’t answer by looking at the online materials. Come prepared to talk about your educational experiences so far - what you liked, what you didn’t like, and what else you like to do. It’s not a time to try to impress - don’t just rattle off your accomplishments.
Are you able to actually visit Mudd or what? I know Thyra travels a lot, but I don’t imagine she goes overseas.

Hey! Thanks for your reply
That was some good insight…I am basically a student in the senior year in India, and Thyra is coming here to interview students.
I was wondering if you could tell me - as your own child has been in one of the interviews - what would be the underlying purpose of the interview from their side. I mean, would it be to get to know “me” as a person - character, qualities etc. - or to get to know “my academics” - want me to talk about my subjects, my work experience, my skills etc?
Is your child going to Harvey Mudd finally? If so, could you talk about your views on the college too? :)

Thanks again! :)

an interview is a two-way process. her job is not only to find out about but also to “sell” you hmc, more the later perhaps. for you, it is to find out about hmc with regards to its fit as well as impress her. hmc is great school, but it’s not for everyone. so use the time during interview to get a good sense of its fit.
