We know that colleges seperate applicants by area.
I was just wondering if Canada is considered as a BIG area or they will seperate the country into smaller areas since there are many applicants from Canada.
If they do seperate the country, does anyone know if it's by province? (cuz they seperate the US into states)

I know some schools separate by regions. I remember talking to a Harvard rep about how many they accepted from the GTA. I don’t know if in fact they separated by region or if he just knew how many came from my area though.

^ how many did he say for that btw

IIRC, last year was about 30-40 or so for the GTA.

I might have the number wrong (this was way back in early October).

I asked my academic advisor today and she said that most colleges will seperate canada into provinces

so I guess that’s a good thing =) more chance lol

Only if it’s like NWT or Nunavut. Doesn’t really help if it’s like Ontario or something. :(

yea lol, doesn’t help Ontario/Quebec/BC people. Not saying that other provinces don’t have good applicants but the majority are form those 3.

If I’ve learned my geography correctly, I think that Quebec people still have a chance xD basically the fluent english speakers are all around montreal, so that makes like 1 city of competitors lol (I don’t live there btw)

and for the Ontario and BC… well at least you get 2/3 more chance by excluding the rest of canada

Harvard, Columbia, and Princeton each have one admissions officer for all of Canada. I imagine it’s the same for other top schools.

lol but then again, you should know that they have one admission officer for west asia and europe together =)
the number of admission officer is not revelant, you just need to know in which pile they will put your application in

30-40 JUST from the GTA sounds like A LOT for me. Does anyone have any stats for how many people APPLY from Canada or from specific cities (GTA for example?) to the top schools?

As I said, it was a while ago and I might have gotten the number wrong. It might have been the numbers of Canadian students per year but my memory seems to have failed me.

30-40 is about the number of Canadians admitted each year to Harvard College. And after talking to the admissions officer who is in charge of Canadian files, I can tell you that they do not separate applicants based on which region of Canada they’re from.

man, its great to have someone on the inside giving us legit. info.

=0
so it’s about 35 top people out of the whole canada
^^; isn’t that some harsh competition…

35 from Canada still sounds like A LOT.

MIT takes <10 students from Canada a year lol I assumed that went the same for Harvard, so I didn’t bother applying there. =(

MIT has a quota on the number of international students (IIRC it’s 8% of the total freshman class). Harvard doesn’t have one.
