I know that University of California allows undergrads to admit with examinations alone based on the UC score of one's SAT I/ACT and 2 SAT subject tests. I'd just like to know if there are other colleges that also admit based on admissions alone. I'm not looking for community colleges; I'm looking for colleges that are on level with colleges like UC Berkeley, University of Michigan, Georgia Tech, etc.

I'd also like to know the pros and cons of admittance by examination alone compared with a regular admission.

While the UC system allows you to become eligible by exam, it is highly unlikely that a typical student will be admitted to Berkeley or Los Angeles solely on the basis of exam scores if his/her high school record is poor.

It is likely that eligibility by exam is used mostly by those missing some UC a-g requirement (often the arts requirement) but who otherwise have good high school records, and home schooled applicants.

What would be the best way to get into UCB or UCLA if my SAT scores are decent but GPA is sub-par. I have a 3.58 weighted overall. My grades have been decent throughout the years, but I failed a class junior year which made my GPA drop significantly. Is there a chance I could get admitted through exception?

Regardless of how you get in, you will need to retake the failed class ASAP. Exam alone can work for lower UCs, but not for Cal or LA. Your only shot at those is 2 years at a CC.
