"[ *] Hook (if any): I am an international student if that is considered as a hook...There are some other factors but I won't specify it in the application."
i dont think being international helps.. however your application looks good... i think you have a decent chance at all of those schools. have you considered applying to georgia tech's engineering school?... you seem like a math/science school. Or even VT's engineering school.

I have heard that schools when weighing internationals' SAT scores will take into account the fact that the applicant's native lang. is not English (thus, counting the Math/Writing heavier and CR less so.) This could be similar to the ACT as well.

You're in at Penn State for sure, Ohio State/Illinois are low matches-safeties, the rest are match/reach. If your Dec. SAT is >2000 you should have no problem for your matches.

Reaches:Columbia, UMich, USC, Cornell (as far as I can tell)

Guys his GPA is good. Just submit the ACT if you took writing.. hopefully they wont see that 22. If however you did not do writing go check with colleges if they accept it still.

1) Being an international student actually hurts. Most, if not all, colleges either give no preference or accept fewer amounts of international students.
2) If you're a permanent resident of the US, you are not an international student.

Well... yes... my biggest hook would be my gender identity but I cannot write about it because I can't ask my English teacher or friends to proof-read... Being in SD hurts you a LOT in some ways...

I lived in the US only for two years... I heard that if my native language is not English, the reading score of the standardized test is weighted less...

Gyros321 // Yes, I did take writing... please don't use 'he'

talk about that in your essay then! that is a serious hook man. don't give it up. you have a chance at an ivy with that story. and tell them that you are afraid of people kicking you out.. and as lolabelle said.. one of us will read it. i may not be an expert but i know good grammar and what sounds good... there are always options. btw nyu is up there on acceptance

You have a compelling story to tell; you don't have to tell it, but I really do think that most schools would be fascinated to hear what you have to say. Much better than your run-of-the-mill community service, ethnic identity stories. I read your post in your chances thread, and you say that you don't want to pick a school based on TG-friendliness; that you want to go to a school that's academically a good fit for you, just like everyone else, and that you want to be successful so that you can, in the future, help other TG people such as yourself. That -- right there -- is incredible. It shows that you are more than your gender identity -- you are a smart, driven, unique individual.

Accepted to the school the applicant applied for

Deferred from the entire university

Not accepted to the program applied but referred to the GSP.

If you go to GSP, you take classes needed for graduation for two years and transfer to the college you originally applied to... It's more like "We will observe you for two year. Show us that you can handle classes at NYU"

BTW, I wrote an essay about my gender identity. If you would read it, please let me know...

Please understand that I can't trust everybody on the internet...(as nobody can...) Don't be mad if I ask you some questions before sending my essay...

Personally, I have to say, that if GSP at NYU is anything like the School of General Studies at BU, you shouldn't say y es to them just yet. I think you can get into better schools.
