Admission chances and advice

I have several questions about admissions and GPA and courses so I’m just gonna list them with explanations if I think they need them… (I’m a junior at the IB program at my school)

  1. because of some family issues, my freshman year was a little rough …3.4 uw (3.5 w) gpa…will that effect me too much? I had a 3.8 uw (4.1 w) gpa sophomore year btw
  2. I switched schools for sophomore year and started the Pre IB program but in order to do that I had to take honors geometry online to catch up with everyone and then I took honors Alg 2 in class (which every other pre IB sophomore took.) and I got As in both…Does taking 2 maths that year affect colleges, and how does it factor into my GPA?
  3. By the time I finish the pre IB and IB Program, I will have taken about 5-6 APs and I think 7 IB classes, how much does that help my chances?
  4. how much does class rank and sat scores matter? While I do consider myself smart, I’m probably only in the top 25th percentile of my class. However, my psat scores for 9th and 10th have been in the 90th percentile.

HAHAHAHAH sorry it’s a lot and kinda repetitive, I’m a little all over the place and I anal. But thanks in advance for putting up with it
Also, any additional advice to do better would be greatly appreciated!!

Your GPA isn’t affected by the fact that you took two math classes in one year, and I don’t think colleges will reject you for doing so. What’s your cumulative unweighted GPA as of now? What colleges are you aiming for, and what do you plan on majoring in? (it’s okay if you don’t know, I’m applying undeclared to some schools and business to others). Class rank doesn’t always matter, as some schools (such as mine, a public school) don’t even provide it to us. I would say SAT/ACT scores matter almost as much as GPA, or just as much. STUDY STUDY STUDY for the SAT/ACT. I would recommend taking the SAT or ACT twice junior year (after you’ve studied hard of course), so you take off the pressure for senior year. Also, once you have some colleges in mind, make sure to double-check what their SAT Subject Test policies are. Another thing: some colleges may say that they don’t the require essays for the SAT or ACT, but take the essays anyway. If a college has to choose between two students with identical GPAs, SAT or ACT composite scores, and a boatload of extracurriculars, who are they going to choose? More likely, the student who took the writing portion of either test. It’s a show of effort and ability. Good luck and don’t slack off!
