Honestly speaking, not very high. On a positive note, it does seem like you have an upward trend in GPA and you did take rigorous classes, but if your weighted GPA is 3.4, I’d imagine it’s lower unweighted (correct me if I am wrong). Your ECs look nice, but even with the rigorous schedule, the low GPA and below average SAT score will make it hard to convince someone on the admission committee that you’d be able to do well in UMich courses.

With that being said, I honestly don’t know how much of a positive effect being a first generation college student has (I imagine it’s quite positive), and I also have no idea what your essays/LORs look like, so what I’m saying may be too harsh, but I’d recommend retaking the SAT and try to push for 2000+.

The mid 50% unweighed GPA range for admitted students in 3.8-4.0 and the mid 50% SAT range for admitted students is 2000-2300. I agree with hailbate, the odds are not good. But I also agree that your upward trend and challenging classes will serve you well. If not admitted, do well wherever you go to college the first year, and transfer to Michigan.

Precisely, the mid 50 this year is 2040-2280. A weak GPA plus below mid 50 SAT score would make it a rather high reach for you even from in state.

Anyone know when the regular decisions are released?

@jake0810 Do you know what rolling mean? The RD decision will come out between later January and mid April.

Made a mistake in my last comment. I applied EA, not RD. I’ve heard EA decisions come out before Christmas.

EA announcement should start this Friday.

@billcsho wouldn’t it be next Friday, the 18th?

Sorry. I meant to say next Friday.

You probably won’t get admitted. Being Asian Male hurts you the most. But first generation maybe helpful if you mentioned in your essay. Not sure why you don’t have ACT if you live in the area. I thought it’s required by the high school.

@alexandre “The mid 50% unweighed GPA range for admitted students in 3.8-4.0”

I hope that is not accurate. Since many Ivies do not even have a 3.9 unwgpa average, this would suggest that Michigan puts a high premium on gpa over rigor. Essentially, if you know you want to go to Michigan then take easy classes, avoid Honors and AP classes, get all A’s, and use the extra time to study for the ACT/SAT.

There are many students in the 3.6-3.8 range with very high rigor that other top schools will strongly consider.

@Much2learn UMich considers both GPA and course rigor to be most important. For the class of 2018, 21% of enrolled freshmen have GPA 4.0 from high school. So Alexandre’s estimation is reasonable considering admission stat is usually higher than enrolled freshmen stat. 3.6-3.7 is considered low at UMich. The admission average GPA in the last couple years were 3.85. The mid 50 should be around 3.75 to 4.0.
