Hello--I've just decided to make an account after months of lurking and freaking out. It'd be great if someone could look over my stats and give an honest opinion on my chances (or lack thereof). I've applied to UIUC, and I'm currently working on: Northwestern, UChicago, Stanford, Wheaton (IL), and Elmhurst.

UW GPA: 3.88
UW Rank: 29/633 (top 5%)
SAT: 2080 (720 CR, 650 M, 710 W, 11 essay)
SAT Subject: 730 Lit, 680 Bio M

EC's: 10-11 volleyball (captain), 9-11 basketball, 9-10 soccer, 11 lacrosse, 12 lit mag, 11-12 writers' club, 12 photo (darkroom), 10-11 chapel team, volunteer work (FMSC, PADS, animal hospital; all staggered throughout 9-12)

I moved after the first semester of my junior year, which is why my EC's aren't consistent.

By the time I graduate, I'll have taken eight AP courses. I plan to major in English. Thanks for all your help!

You look good for UIUC, Wheaton and Elmhurst.

Your scores and ECs make the others unlikely. I would consider replacing a couple with some less selective privates that meet need if you’re seeking financial aid as your safety and match schools don’t give great aid.

Thanks for the response–I figured I didn’t have much of a shot at those schools. I’m looking into colleges like Allegheny and DePaul as well, which should constitute as safeties. (Hopefully.)

Again, those are not good aid schools. Do you need aid? All lists should have money factored in.

My parents are willing to cover most of my college expenses, as long as they know I’m passionate about the school. My family’s not “rich,” but I don’t think we’ll qualify for need-based aid either. Do you have any suggestions? I do have have my state school option–that is, I will if UIUC accepts me. I’ll find out in a couple weeks.
