Admission Chances?

Hey, Guys! So I've applied for the UCs and I'm quite a worry wart. I'll probably end up with a 3.70 - 3.75 GPA as of the end of the Fall 2011 semester. I'm dying with anxiety. I'll be finishing all my prereqs in the Spring semester, too.

My major is Econ (but for Berkeley, it's Environmental Econ & Policy). I've applied to UCI, UCLA, and UC Berkeley. My alternate for UCLA is Quantitative Econ, which I didn't see listed on the UCLA transfer profile site.

I had good extra curricular (but that's to my standards) - interned at the United Nations, President of PoliSci and another club, etc.

Give me the bitter truth from your experience and knowledge please.

You have a great shot at Berkeley. I was gonna go for EEP at Cal because I felt with a 3.7 and my good experience (like yours) Id get in easy. However, I chose Business. I really cant tell you anything about UCI and LA- im in a similar situation. I hope LA at least takes us for our alternate major.

sorry, your chance is low for ucla, and I think for uci, you’ll have a great
shot.

keep this in mind, low for ucla if u r major in econ, not business econ.
for business econ, ur chance is 0%

UCI great in the sense of major in just econ itself not business econ.
for business econ ur chance is decent.

Thanks, Mikey! I wish you good luck too. You really think I have a great shot? o.o Do you realize how much hope you’ve given me?

But could I ask what you’re basing this upon? Unfortunately, Berkz doesn’t offer transfer profiles.

You should be fine with UCI. But yes, LA is the toughie. If I can get into Berkeley or LA, my academic life up to this point is complete, lol.

@ Ferrari: Thanks for the heads up. What about Berkeley? I’m actually in TAG for Irvine so I feel rather secure about that.

I did Pre-Econ for LA. I’m really hoping for a miracle on that one. My alternative was Environmental Science, though.

@yebeardo
Sorry dude, but I think you have a low chance for UCB. But hey man, I know somebody that got in like 3 years ago with 3.7 gpa. Thats 3 years ago, and I’m not so sure about right now, in another case most econ major are like around 3.7-3.9.
3.8+ for business econ.

I really think you can get in UCB if ur EC is great and ur essay is amazing. I will just leave everything on ur personal statement and ur EC to determine ur admission.

and btw, come on …you tagged uci, just ignore that school and focus on something greater than that.

Thanks, man! After this thread, I’d be happy with just UCI. Those are the only three schools I’ve applied to.

Do some searches on CC and youll find EEP majors getting in with 3.5s to 3.7s. I read that EEP and Political Econ are easy entrance if you have good experience and essays like ferrari said.

@ferarri Do u think LA will just toss out your app for bizecon if your at a 3.7? Will they read through everything first?

@mikeys
nope they will not automatically toss out applicants that have 3.7 gpa.
They will take the competitive applicants first, then if there are spaces left over, they will start to explore for more applicants which likely NO.

@Pinoiako916 I don’t really think this section is the best place for your question.

@ferrari
haha that really sucks… they might be missing out on some pretty bright students
