Admission chances

What are the chances of admission for a high school out of state senior who has 1300/1600 on SAT (650 on verbal, 650 math, only took once, and never took ACT unfortunately) and about a 3.6 GPA? Probably majoring in engineering? Also, no extracurriculars to speak of at all! My son spent his free time up til this year playing HALO-3. He has always either been in band or else took a piano course, but that's about the only EC he could lay claim to. However, no community service hours, no job except as a camp counselor one summer.

How important are those essays? He's discouraged and thinks he won't get admitted, and so isn't going to do one of the required essays, which I think is a bad idea.

Does Texas A&M have a Freshman Snapshot for last year's class, does anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

is he in the top 25% of his class? If so, he has automatic admission to TAMU.

I’m not sure if out of state gets automatic admittance …

Out of state applicants do if they are in top 25% and have 1300 on SAT (1300 total, but 600 min in math & 600 critical reading) Plus, meet the minimum State of Texas requirements and recommended course work.

Not top 10%, that is for Texans only

Wow, thanks KLparker312!!!

I just texted my son.

With his 3.6, he’s got to be top 25%, probably even higher. It’s a small school, but nonetheless.

Thanks for sending me that link!!

A grateful mom
