kind? Hardly a problem!

Many posters on this site are not kind. I tend to be too sensitive about it.

Go ahead. Post your stats.
Maybe i’m being kind because i do not have too much experience with these things yet. being frank though is not an act of “unkindness”!

alright, alright Just be aware that I’m totally against this!! Sorry Grinnell!!! My mom always tells me that admissions read this site…not gonna lie, I’m slightly regretful of some things I’ve posted.

GPA: 3.943/4…math grr
rank: 9/188…report card said 191…some aren’t graduating???
ACT: 23 haha told ya you’d cringe
4 AP’s - Spanish, Lit/comp, US History, and stats. Grinnell asked for my report 3 weeks ago…my grades in the AP’s weren’t outstanding. A in Spanish, however.

I’m assuming my recs would be decent. I’m a good kid.
Writing…I wrote about CC in my essay “best, worst advice” haha. I wrote about how people told me I shouldn’t apply to a selective uni and I did anyway and didn’t get rejected. Idk.

on their site it says that they want “pre-calc” yeah, I didn’t take that. Teacher didn’t recommend it if I wasn’t going into math…so I didn’t take it. I wasn’t looking as extensively at colleges a year ago.

On the common app I said that I wanted to study languages, philosophy, and anthropology. I still want to study those things…especially anthro.

Your school stats seem a lot more solid than mine in your last year. Just stop worrying and relax. Its not in your hands anymore!

^Thanks for being so supportive about it!! CC needs more posters like you, not Ivy-crazy elitists who would gladly cut off their right arm for a spot at Harvard. I see you applied to Harvard, but the fact that you would take a small school in Iowa over a big-name powerhouse really says something about where your motives are. I think I would take Grinnell over Harvard, too.

While cutting body parts is out of question, its seeing 2 seniors of mine getting into harvard that pushed me to app abroad. Fine, maybe i wouldn’t take grinnell over harvard and i did do my ea there, i admit it, but i love grinnell. I’m also more of a realist than an optimistic elitist. :)

plus liberal arts places give me research opportunities early on. Apparently big unis don’t. Which is why i went for lac’s at all. And hence grinnell. :)

i just want an education rbouwens, and i like the vibes grinnell gives me.
Can anybody tell me about research opportunities in the physics department?

Just so we’re clear, financial need is absolutely not considered for domestic students. Grinnell is need blind and meets full need for domestic students. Grinnell is need-sensitive but still meets full need of internationals (and there are only like six colleges in the country that are need-blind for internationals, so it’s not like Grinnell hates international students or something).

Which is of course why i applied to grinnell. It seems lovely. All that remains is that final bit of news.
Kudryavka, about research opportunities?

Astro, if you don’t get into Grinnell, do you know where you’re going to go?

In the case i don’t crack any of the us colleges, i’ll give my all for the indian entrance exams! All hail the motherland. We have great engineering schools back here. :)

its just that physics isn’t taught too well back here. But we do have 2 or 3 world class places for grad and post grad pure science research.

^ That’s really cool!!! Good luck regardless!!!

you too man.

Sorry astrobling, I don’t know that much about research opportunities, particularly in physics. I’ve heard that there’s funding for it, and lots of people do research over summer in projects called MAPs, but I couldn’t say much more than that.

oh okay! I read up on the map program. I’d definitely like to be a part of that, if i get in. I hope my gpa doesn’t ruin the dream. Sometimes its really hard to explain sudden changes on your report card without criticising your high school, which is the last thing i’d do to any college! I hope my school counsellor’s report helps explain some things.
