Admission Chances

So I had another thread, but can't find that one, so I'll try again...

I am applying to Loomis Chaffee, Lawrenceville, Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, NMH, and Mercersburg for sophomore year.

I am Korean, and I was born there and lived there for seven years, until I moved here for second grade.

I speak Korean, Spanish, and Chinese, and obviously English, as well.

My grades are not outstanding, I have mostly A's and a couple of B's since 7th grade. But most of those B's came from my math class, which I am ahead, as I am in Honors Precalculus now. I also take Advanced English, IDEA(Which is like honors without the 5 GPA) Biology, IDEA World History, Spanish 2, and College and Career Planning.

As far as extracurricular activities, I have been a part of a Speech & Debate Team for 4 years, and I have won several first place awards at tournaments.
I have also been swimming competitively for 4 years, although I am not very good.
I am on my school's Mock Trial team, the Model United Nations club, and the swim team.
I have played violin for four years, as well. As for community service, I serve at my church's food pantry, and I do so weekly, for 3 hours. I've been on several mission trips, although that came earlier in life.

I've been to CTY over the summer.

My SSAT scores are as follows:

Math - 99
Reading - 95
Verbal - 92
Overall - 97 (2310)

I took it again in December, awaiting results.
My recommendations should be great, I think I have a great relationship with my teachers.

So chance me, please?

Are u a U.S. citizen/permanent resident?

No, I am not a citizen. I will be applying as an international student.

Int’l SKorean applicant pool is VERY competitive. I hope u have the opportunity to visit these campuses and interview in person there, as this will help your chances.

Yes, I interviewed at Hotchkiss, Deerfield, and Loomis in person, but I wasn’t able to visit the others. I have skype interviews planned for the rest.

Oh, and I reside in California, as well.

International Admissions IS very competitive, especially with Koreans. But you seem to have done a lot to separate from the pack (ECs, Interviews, etc). I’d say you have good chances.

Good luck. Boarding school is an awesome experience ^_^

Thanks. I’m not sure, but is applying as and international student that much of a killer to your chances?

Im also an applicant and I don’t have a lot of knowledge about international students, but you would think they would choose domestic over international students because they are citizens and the schools need to promote their own country, and only accept international students to give a few kids across the world a chance for a good education. But dont get me wrong, I think you have really good chances for admissions. You seem like a very well rounded student.

Yes, that’s what I am worried about. I have lived in the States and in a public school system for eight years though, if that helps at all.

If your applying as a South Korean/non US citizen I don’t think they will care if you lives in America. But then again they DO accept a lot of South Koreans. The only thing you can do now is try your best and not worry because in my opinion you have excellent stats, keep up the good work!

Thanks. What schools are you applying to?

Im applying to Andover and Exeter. Im leaning toward Exeter though, I am a reapplicant also

Since u say u’v bn residing in CA for the last 8 years, are u a permanent resident (green card holder)? If so, then doesn’t that make u a domestic applicant?

If u are not a permanent resident, then how (or why?) hv u been able to attend a u.s. public school for the last 8 years? Are u an illegal immigrant?

No, my mom goes to school here, so she has an F-1 Visa.

… and that is offensive.

When we move to different foreign countries, my kids are not allowed to attend the local public schools, even though we have legal work/residency visas. What’s offensive about my question? I was genuinely puzzled.

Well then, I’m sorry, I thought there was something implied. Anyway, our visa lets us go to school here.

You’ll probably get into most, if not all. if rejected from any, andover. Good luck.

Haha, thanks, this is a really old post btw.
