Reach:
Northwestern
Columbia
UPenn

Match:
Univ. of Michigan
NYU
UNC-Chapel Hill
George Washington Univ. (close to safety)

Safety:
Purdue
Penn State
Boston Univ.
Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison
Michigan State (obviously)

If you have not yet applied to some of those safeties, you might want to drop a couple of them. Five is a lot of safeties (especially since GWU is close to a safety too). For example, I am not sure that Penn State or Purdue have significant advantages over Michigan State. Penn State financial aid is reputed to be horrible, even for in state state students.

UNC-Chapel Hill is better than every other school on your list except the reaches and U.Michigan. You are very lucky to have it as in state school.

Thanks for your response! I have already applied to all, plus a couple fit/reaches overseas. As for the reaches you listed above, do you think it’s possible to be accepted? I am also applying early decision to NU.

I almost added that I would expect you to get into at least one of those reaches, but not all. So, yes, I think it possible.

At U.Penn your SAT is kind of low, but your ACT is solid/average. So, definite possibility.
At NU, your SAT and ACT are both solid. That’s good since you want it enough to choose ED.
At Columbia, your SAT is pretty low, but ACT is not bad. But with an acceptance rate of only 7%, your chances seem slim.

These are reaches for everybody, not just for you. Subjective factors such as extracurricular activities, and current “trends” (sorry, but they do this) are a significant factor. SAT and ACT are the best predictors of success in college, but are only one of many elements for admissions.

Good Luck on Northwestern. It’s a great school. Your chances there do appear higher than at UPenn or Columbia. :-bd

Our stats are very similar; I’m anxious to hear whether or not you get into Northwestern! I’m applying too, but not ED. Good luck!!

@Veggie716 Good luck to you as well! Where else are you applying?
