I am a current in-state senior and go to a non-ranking school in Texas. I have a 30 on the ACT, am on the IB diploma program track, and have a bunch of extracurriculars and leadership positions. My first choice major is computer science in CNS and I was just wondering which major in liberal arts (environmental science or asian studies) has a higher acceptance rate? I am interested in studying both majors but can’t choose one. Is computer science easy to get into if you are a girl? I really want to go to UT next fall, but since I don’t have a rank, I’m not sure about my chances. Any advice for easy majors/my chances of getting in?
For your second choice major, Asian studies should be easier to get into than Environmental Science, though I am not familiar with Asian Studies at UT, so I can’t say for sure. What I do know is that Environmental Science at UT is a restricted major even for the Enviro Sci track listed under the liberal arts college. My son is in Enviro Science at UT and they told us this past year it was pretty competitive to get into.
Thank You! Do you know if asian studies would be easier or would it be easier to go into Liberal Arts undecided at UT?
I’m sorry, that I don’t know. But whatever majors you pick, try and make a solid case in your essay for why you picked that career path and your goals for each. Same with your resume, try and make it look like you have shown some previous interest in those fields of study.
I have seen posts from you with different majors. Coming from a parent who has a senior applying to colleges, stop worrying about what is easy to get in to and focus on what you can major in that will lead to gainful employment in 4 and at most, 5 years. Unless someone is paying out of their pocket for you, you are going to need a good job to pay off your student loans. It should not be anyone else’s burden.
With all due respect, Thelma2 … I’m sure that you have the best of intentions but it seems a little presumptuous to make such a strongly worded statement to people you know nothing about.
