Okay, so I'm a white male from Texas. I have automatic admission to UT and I'm well in at Baylor. However, what are my chances at Vandy, Hopkins, Emory, and Georgetown?

I know my scores...well...are not what they need to be for me to feel good about admissions, but what kind of chances do I have?

My uncle went to Vanderbilt, and I am applying Early Decision.

Poor rank , poor ACT,scattered list of ECs( spelling… come on?), lack of commitment(basketball…quitter!)…

I don’t see any focus besides Current Events and World Affairs council. What’s your intended major?
What’s your SAT score? Your ACT is on the low side for a unhooked white male at Emory, Hopkins, and Georgetown. I’m not sure if your legacy will carry you through to Vanderbilt( unless you have a development hook).

You should work on getting your class rank up before midterm reports. Your school doesn’t seem like one of the behemoth Texan public schools. Try to crack the top 5 to really help your chances.

Make sure as well to inundate your senior schedule with as many AP classes. Shoot for a full-schedule. I’m sure you can handle it. (Don’t drop any classes like you dropped basketball)

My suggestions for colleges: UT, A &M, UNT, Abilene Christian.

Your chances aren’t going to be good as well since you’re not on varsity spelling…
In addition, Vandy is going to know about physics…those admissions officers are clairvoyant. (Actually McCane already called and sent in an anti-recommendation)

My school was like that. Lots of competition, especially in the top ten or so people. Does your school send a lot of kids to good schools? If so, you might not have to worry; generally, rates of acceptance don’t vary that much from year to year.

We usually have a few who go to schools other than UT or A&M, but our class is much more competitive than usual. So we don’t really know how it’s going to turn out.

Varsity spelling? Do you have junior varsity? That’s intense.
I mean, the Republicans thing is impressive. Schools like that enjoy accepting people who start groups. Although, correct me if I’m wrong, starting a Republican group in Texas is not the most difficult of tasks is it?
And how hard is Current Events? Is UIL a state-wide program? If so, kudos. State awards are always great!
