Admission Counselor

Just a random question... this goes in regards to Notre Dame and other schools as well. Does the admissions counselor for my area review my application at all or have any say? Who exactly makes the decision on whether we are admitted or not? Do all schools function the same way or do they differ?

Yankees27 yes your regional rep is the first person who reads your application. He/she makes comments (such as admit, reject, WL,etc) and then it goes to a second reader. If you are a legacy, then your application gets read by a third reader who is Dan Saracino the Director of Admissions. He has the final say. I believe that most RD candidates (non legacy) get just 2 readers. Now what happens if one reader says admit and the other says deny, I assume it then goes to a third reader or to a committee. Your regional rep is your advocate. He/She is the person who fights on your behalf ( if they feel you are qualified) should your app. end up in committee (such as the WL). I don’t know how the process works at other schools but at ND all legacy candidates receive a letter from Dan Saracino explaining the process (at least last year’s candidates received this letter). So, moral of the story…it helps if your regional rep knows who you are but honestly, most don’t really get to know their rep until they get put on a waitlist. Good Luck.

Wow that was extremely helpful! I’ve been talking with my rep night and day for well over 8 months so if it ends up with that third person, I should be in good hands! Thanks!
