When I logged on to ESTHER, I found out that my application status was (and still is) "File Closed--documents not received by deadline."

I looked under the Admission Requirements Section and saw that all the documents were received by Rice. I do not know why this is so. It might be because of my financial statement that I sent close to the deadline. It was postmarked on January 31, before the February 2 deadline. Does anyone know if the actual document has to arrive at Rice before February 2 or does it have to be postmarked before then?

PS. I checked with my counselor and made sure that all the other documents were sent it long before the deadline.

Thanks for any input!

Generally speaking, documents have to be postmarked by the deadline. But the only way you’re going to know what’s going on is to contact the school directly.

Financial aid docs are never “required” (they’ll be happy if you pay full price, after all) and I sent my own FA materials in in late February.
My teacher recommendation also didn’t arrive until a week after the Feb 2 late materials deadline (but then again, I emailed them 2x and called 3x the whole week before because I was so worried. my teacher faxed the rec twice and Rice never got it and so she finally used snailmail).
waitlisted, btw

:( sorry to hear you didn’t get a decision, but I wouldn’t be too sure that it’s because of sending in FA late.
Call.

I didn’t apply for financial aid, by the way. It’s the financial statement that I was talking about. This form is required for all international applicants; they just want to know how we are going to pay four years for college. I am going to call them as soon as the office opens. It’s 8:30 am, I believe.

Do you think they’ll actually pull out the file again and re-evaluate my application? I personally think that they will not because they usually evaluate applicants by comparing them to one another right? Meaning, it would be unorthodox to just review my application alone. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Any more input?

Hello Themust,I’m an international as well, and theere was a time they said they didn’t get my financial statement. I feel sorry for what you got on the esther, and I’m not trying to damper your hope, but I clearly remember their “pushing” email in which we were required to let our missing documents REACH their office by that Feb. 2 deadline, not just the postmark date,I beleive…and to expediate the receiving of the missing credentials,we were supposed to either choose faxing or emailing with the scanned docs followed by hard copies. Good Luck to you!! I guess calling is a good idea. Btw,did u check ur esther account after the Feb. 2 and before the decisions were out? Did you see anything like file closed?
