My daughter applied EA to Engineering. App and materials were in 10/24, but teacher rec got lost and was not posted until 11/26. I don't know if she will get the EA decision because of that, but my question is are any of you who have received a decision a legacy? Her grandfather went there and was a pretty big deal football player back in the day. The website says they do consider alumni status, but I'm wondering if any of you who have been deferred (with target or higher stats) had an alumni connection. Thanks.

I know 2 legacies who have been deferred, if that helps you at all. All had the avg/above avg stats of the admitted class

Not what I wanted to hear of course, but thanks for the input.

S was a '06 HS grad, double legacy applicant, both parents, 3 U-M degrees between us, and was deferred. Despite so-called holistic review of candidates, numbers are king...GPA, ACT/SAT. Other app components (recs, EC's, essays, legacy, etc.)...unless there's a glaring problem, carry far less weight, IMO.

Who was the football player?

My mom and grandmother both went to UMich and I was accepted.

Stats:
GPA 4.0/4.74
SAT R 800 / W 800 / M 740
SATII World 760 Chem 780
Good extra curriculars/essays/recs

hope this helps!

Admissions Chart

The University no longer follows this point system, but it gives you a rough idea of how much they weigh various categories (though Underrepresented Minority and Men in Nursing no longer have any weight whatsoever, but that's an entirely different issue). Only having a grandparents/step parent as an alumni connection doesn't get you very much.

I have my guess for who the grandfather is. Anybody wanna give me a cookie if I'm right? =]

dsmo: i think that's the 3rd time you've pulled that one. out of respect for athletes (and I'm NOT a fb player), please be considerate.

dilksy: i'll give you a smilie face!

What? This is the first I have ever heard anything of this.

dilsky, where did you find that little chart
very helpful

what would be a good score though

I just googled something like "michigan admissions points system". It was made public after the lawsuit that made them drop said points system. Somewhere there's a more complete pdf file that goes in depth on how they figured out the school/curriculum factor.

how exactly do they fill out each category
