Admission decision- Not admitted.

Hello! So I’m an international student( Indian to be specific). I got rejected today for a mechanical engineering major. I was wondering if an appeal would work, and is it advisible? Should I switch my major to a less competitive one?(I’ve heard ECE is less competitive and I’m pretty interested in that too)
A bit of info:
2050 on SAT. (730-M 660-CR 660-W)
800-M2 780-Phy 780-Chem
Top 1% of school.(3rd ranker out of 300+ students)
President of my school’s Chess Club, played in All India Nationals tournament, national champion of Oman (where I’m currently living).
Decent essays. Decent recommendations.
Around 150 hours of community service(on the record).
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think you need to move on.

While there may be small differences in the competitiveness of various engineering majors, it is negligible. Changing majors is not really grounds for an appeal.

Engineering is very competitive and there are very few spots for international students. Possibly your SAT I score was not strong enough this year. I think UT Austin doesn’t give as much consideration to SAT II scores.

I don’t believe you can resubmit for this year if you have been rejected. Internationals have a separate category for admission and it is quite possible they have filled up those limited number of seats.
