Sonâs portal updated. deferred.
Check your portal. They updated due to mailing delays
My sonâs portal was updated as well, deferred. Fingers crossed for everyone!!!
Has anyone gotten rejected? Seems like they deferred so many ppl?
Second review here
I wonder if the âsecondâ review pretty much eliminates your chances for the OOS scholarships. Meh, that is why we apply to a few schools!!
We were told there were no denials just 2nd review at this time
Hey! I got instate through the academic common market. Georgia didnt have my major of choice. The acceptance leter said at least 40,000 a year! Hopefully that takes a big chunk of tuition out.
So no letter yet but at last an e-mail with apologies for the delay and a defer decision. Really? Why donât they just stick with the portal for communications and get rid of the snail mail? It was quite obvious that my daughter was deferred because she never received a letter ( we are in CA) and the daily check of the mail was very emotional. Her other college choices donât operate this way. I was very disappointed on how this decision was handled. We have now moved forward.
I was deferred OOS and honestly its ridiculous how they handled the entire thing. They shouldâve been much more professional. I hope they are well aware of all the wasted time, checking mail, and all of the frustration they caused with this nonsense.
@macusc - I was sooooo confused, couldnât figure out why I would post on this forum. I think you meant to address âthreeFORthreeââŠIâm âthreeOFthreeâ.
Ditto!
My daughter was not deferred, but was put in for second review.
My bet is that they did not even look at her application in the EA batch.
My daughter also received the â2nd Reviewâ BS⊠not buying it.
It seems that EA for colleges is a way for them to gobble up the âuberâ students and spit out the average/above average students. So much for the âdiversityâ rhetoric that the colleges spew out. Just not true! The funny part is that we still have never received a letter (CA). We are also on â2nd reviewâ but not holding our breaths for South Carolina.
@ruth59 I thought the same thing until my D received her acceptance (albeit very late & her portal updated 4 days before the envelope arrived). We were in the batch that was issued 12/13/18 and assumed she was probably being deferred but she was accepted. Her stats are not that of the so-called âuber studentsâ - 3.9 W GPA and 1190 SAT Superscore, but she has a lot of extra-curricular activities and her strengths (math & science) play to her major (in the medical field). Plus her essay, I am told by her guidance department, was one of the strongest theyâve seen. Based on her acceptance EA, I donât think that it is strictly based on grades and test scores, though Iâm sure they play a huge role in the decision-making process. Bottom line I hope you do not give up hope for regular decision acceptance. Best of luck!
I think your daughter is the exception. I have seen 0 other posts with anyone below a 1250 sat getting in this year or last - second reviewed due to sat/gpa . Did you post earlier that your daughter applied to a new cardiovascular program and also met with the founder of that dept? I wonder if that helped too. Not to take anything away from her -I am sure she deserves admission and will be very successful.
@Luckymesa11 Yes, you are correct. My point is, she is NOT an âuber studentâ, which someone earlier said were hte only students admitted EA. I realize she was an exception with her SAT score but clearly they did not base her admission strictly on that and her GPA. The CVT program is one of the newer programs, yes, but its been around a few years and I read somewhere that they had over 200 applicants this year (I believe they only take about 40-50 so it is competitive). My point is that she went the extra mile in other areas knowing her SAT score wasnât as high as others and did things that would help her get over that bubble. Also, she has a friend who has a 4.2 GPA and her SAT was only 1100 superscored (no ACT) that was admitted EA too - different major. Again, lots of XC activities and a strong essay. Iâm just trying to say that just because you went to 2nd review, do not give up. It sounds like there are plenty of qualified students who will likely be admitted during regular admission. Best of luck to everyone!
What I have learned with my daughter(who is a HS senior this year) and my son (who is a Junior at Texas Tech), there are many factors in these application processes. Some are cut and dry where others are not so cut and dry. I have seen excellent scores get denied and below average scores get accepted. I would like to think there was a perfect process, but itâs not. Especially when it comes to essays. What I mean is the essays are all in how the reader views the essay. You can have perfect writing skills, but the reader didnât like what you wrote (they have personal opinions). You may have used a word that they despise, you never know. My advice is (with experience) have as many options available. And if USC is your school, donât give up. But donât try to reason with logic with the application process, it will only drive you insane. My 2 cents for the day. Good luck everyone!!!
I think it also has to do with the college/major an applicant applied to. With smaller programs that only select 50 out 200 applicants (which in my opinion is a small pool) they can look through the applications more thoroughly and base the decision on more than numbers. With bigger programs that may be equally selective but have a much larger applicant pool, I am sure they used test scores and GPAs to sift through the first round. Weâve been told by admissions counselors that some departments look solely at test/gpa for early answers, so someone who got admitted to one program may not have been accepted to another until later. And secondary review doesnât mean rejection so everyone who got a notice donât lose hope! Good luck to everyone!.
