Admission Decisions Class of 2023

For those whose acceptance letters contain acknowledgement of a scholarship…my son’s states “tuition reduction plus scholarship”. I am assuming this would mean in-state tuition plus an additional scholarship amount? Any clarification would be helpful! Congrats to all!!!

@mommamo1 and others: While many scholarships qualify for in-state tuition, not all do. Please see this link https://sc.edu/about/offices_and_divisions/undergraduate_admissions/tuition_scholarships/scholarships/nonresidents/index.php for detailed information on scholarships for out of state students. If you click on each award, you will see whether it means in-state tuition rate, “reduction of nearly half of the out-of-state rate,” or “a significant tuition reduction.”

How hard is it to change your major? Reason I am asking is my D applied for biology (Ecology) but actually wants to change her major to Environmental Engineering. She was able to do this for all the schools she applied for except USC.

No packet here yet in NC. He did apply on deadline day. 1560 SAT, GPA 4.5 honors and AP’s. Major Engineering. They had been recruiting him heavily for top scholar, so seems odd to have not heard … but still time!

My son’s acceptance letter (last year) had the scholarship/tuition reduction written in the letter. It was worded “at least xx dollars” which turned out to be the amount he received. Post #81 by LuckyCharms has the link which lays out the scholarships nicely. The one thing to remember is that it’s not an either/or with regard to GPA’s and test scores - it’s both. You must meet both hurdles (unless something has changed this year).

Congrats to those that have been accepted! And to those that have SC as a back up (mine originally did), try and attend an Admitted Student Day event. It made all the difference for my son and he really likes it there.

Question, the qualification for scholarships says “average” GPA and ACT score for each level. He should have qualified, at minimum, for the merit scholarship. Since there was no mention in the letter, what are the chances of merit money coming at a later date? He did already receive significant merit from Auburn. Without money from USC, the school will be off the table.

@ml0204 I agree. We are waiting for what University of Miami offers. And also Texas Tech has offered quite a bit. But in the end the student has to be happy.

We are OOS. My D received her “yes” envelope yesterday; accepted for the Geophysics major. ACT: 27, 94/100 GPA, 6 AP’s, rigorous private high school. Through a southern states academic market, her major qualifies for in-state tuition which makes UofSC an option for us financially.

Has anyone heard back from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications yet? I was trying to figure out why other people from my state (Ohio) would’ve gotten their decisions and I haven’t, but it seems only business and arts and sciences majors have gotten decisions. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Do we know if they mail out different schools separately?

My D received acceptance letter this week - We are from New Jersey and she is a Public Health major. Two of her friends applied and did not receive anything yet.

Just checked my portal and it said I got in with a merit scholarship. But no acceptance letter in the mail yet.

where on your portal does it say you’re admitted?

The portal has changed. The splash page now says, “Welcome to the University of South Carolina” Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of South Carolina!

I was accepted to the Darla Moore School of Business and received a guaranteed scholarship. I had a 1300 on my SAT and a 3.8 GPA. Go ■■■■■!
