Anyone heard about admission yet? It looks like they start admitting very soon.

My daughter has heard nothing back yet (and I keep checking for her :)) other than that her application is complete and they process in the order received. She didn’t apply until early November, so I assume she’ll hear back sometime in January/February. They had about a thousand more undergrad applications this year than they had last year.

I’m so glad that there is an admissions thread here this year. After visiting CSUN, CPP and CSUCI over the Thanksgiving break, SSU is still my daughter’s top choice, though she really likes CSUN and CPP. She’s currently a junior, so admissions postings this year will reduce a lot of stress for next year. Thank you for that!

Here is an article I read last spring about SSU admissions. It mentions that the earliest they notified was January, due to the fact that they manually review everything. Maybe it’ll be automated this year. The CSUCI admissions director mentioned during the tour that this would be the first year they were using software to evaluate requirements and eligibility. He mentioned that applicants could expect a speedier acceptance notification. No programs are impacted there, so I imagine that circumstance would still require a manual review. Anyway, I hope this helps.

According to the application confirmation my daughter received, “Sonoma State will process applications on a rolling basis (in the order received) starting December 1, 2012. There goal is to notify all applicants of an admission decision by March 15, 2013.”

And Sonoma State does have impacted majors - [Impacted Majors for First Time Freshmen : Sonoma State University](http://sonoma.edu/admissions/ftf/freshmenhighdemand.html)

^ ooops. Here is the impacted majors for 2013-2014 [url=http://sonoma.edu/admissions/ftf/freshmenhighdemandf13.html]Impacted Majors for First Time Freshmen Fall 2013 : Sonoma State University/url.

My daughter would love to be accepted - Sonoma State is her 1st choice school.

Checked Twitter (did a simple Sonoma State search) and Sonoma State HAS sent out acceptance notifications. For those who posted (tweeted?), the earliest acceptance was posted on 12/5.

My son was accepted to SSU as an Econ major yesterday. He applied the first week of Oct and had a CSU GPA of 3.2 and SAT of 1240/1600.

He still hasn’t received an email. We discovered it while checking the status.

Check your SSU portal reguarly.

Congratulations NCalRent & son!

Thanks for the info and smart thinking to check the tweets, MLM. Your link shows EI numbers for Pre-Business; last year’s just showed a GPA. It is so good to have an EI number and know your child will make the cut-off.

Congrats NCalRent and son. My daughter’s birthday is in Dec - to think she could know this time next year would make it awesome!

Thanks !

I am a proud dad.

Can someone share the link for the EI?

^ Here is the link to the eligibility index for SSU 2013/2014 [Impacted Majors for First Time Freshmen Fall 2013 : Sonoma State University](http://sonoma.edu/admissions/ftf/freshmenhighdemandf13.html)

I’m assuming the eligibility index for non-impacted majors is 2900, similar to other CSU’s, but there is nothing on SSU’s website that indicates that is so.

To back up what MLM mentioned with a link; 2900 SAT/694 ACT are minimums.

It’s interesting that pre-business, at 3106 SAT/734 ACT, is not all that far away from that.

Yes, I went on line and just typed in admissions status and found I had gotten in. I know that putting your app in early helped. I sent mine in within the first week of october. I plan on going up and visiting the campus for a 2nd time to see how it feels. Got into Northern Arizona as well and really like that campus.

If any of you have any questions, I’m a current SSU sophomore and I would love to answer any questions!

^ I have a question :). Do any of the (dorm room) drawers lock (eliminating the need for a lock box for meds, etc). Also, what is the average size class? And do most kids stay on campus on weekends?

The dorm room drawers provided do not have any locks on them, so you would need to bring a lock box.

Sonoma State states the average class size is under 40. Personally, my biggest class has been choir, with a little over 100 people, which was what was needed for that type of choir. My biggest general education has been 100. Most of major classes are very small, only 4,7,12 people in the classes. I LOVE IT!

I live in the dorms and I think more people stay for the weekend than one might think. If people want to party, they leave campus, not a lot of parties happen on. However, I would say a fair amount hang around, work, and study on the weekends. However, not a lot of people who live off campus come to campus on the weekends.

fluteloop: what is off-campus life like? do most students live on campus for more than one year, or do they typically move off campus into apartments or houses?

I would say a lot of students choose to live on campus again. The housing is really nice and is full every year. Most (80-90%) of the people I knew my freshman year choose to live on campus again for their 2nd year. About half of the people I know now are choosing to live on campus a 3rd year. I only know a handful of people who lived on campus after that, but it is possible. One of my suitemates is living on campus for her 5th year.
Those who live off campus there freshman year are people who live local. I knew no one who didn’t live local who choose to live off campus their first year. The off campus housing is no where near as nice as on campus, but it isn’t terrible from what I’ve seen.
Off campus life has more parties, but Rohnert Park isn’t known for the party scene. Most people who want to party go to San Fran or Berkeley and they aren’t the serious students. I’ve been to parties, but they are low key, not a ton of people, very relaxed. If you want the party scene, SSU is not for you. Personally, I love the social life, because it isn’t as intense and I’ve been able to make real life-long bonds.

I hope I answered your question! Keep the questions coming!

Fluteloop,

Thanks for your insider knowledge! SSU was the first school my son heard back from–admitted to Liberal Studies. He was not originally going to apply there, but became intrigued by the Liberal Studies program due to the seminar instruction, small class sizes, and the track offered where you can get a concurrent teaching credential. Do you have friends in this program? If so, how do they like it?
