Admission Engineering

Hello,

I was just wondering is it harder to get into UCLA if I were to apply as an engineering major due to the fact that it is so competative. I want to major in Bioengineering, so, for example, if i were to select regular biology on my UC application would it be difficult to transfer into HSSEAS after I got admitted?

One more thing! If i were to apply as Bioengineering, is it possible to get rejected into the HSSEAS but still get admitted to UCLA? or would you be rejected to the whole school in general?

** I know this is a really messy/bad post but I am the first in my family to go to college so i really have no one to ask >.<

Thank you in advance for your time.

1) yes 2) no

Correct, it is more difficult to enter as an engineering major. If they reject you from the engineering school, you are NOT considered for another major. If you feel you are not strong enough to apply under engineering, I suggest applying as another major and switching in when you get here.

It is a hassle, but if you get a good GPA (3.5+) in the engineering pre reqs, you can switch over to engineering later in the year. Engineers take common pre reqs like math/chem so you won’t be missing anything (the downside is the hassle to switch in).

hope that helped!

Gatos is correct. However, you should be aware that getting a 3.5 in the prereqs (or whatever the number is) is not easy. An ‘A’ here means a whole lot more than an ‘A’ in high school.

I was accepted into ucla engineering right out of high school, but had I applied into letters and science and then attempted to transfer into engineering, there’s no way I could have done that.

Ok. Well I want to do Bioengineering. So say I apply as Biology in Letters and Science, maintain and maintain the 3.5. Then, would I be guaranteed entrance into engineering? Or would it still be a toss up.

The only reason I am considering doing this is because of my low SAT. 1930 (700m 660w 570cr) But my GPA is still competitive (4.3).

So if you guys were in my shoes, would you just apply in L&S and then just switch when you get a chance? Or just select Bioengineering on the UC app and see what happens?

Like always, thank you in advance for your time and effort :)

how are your extra curriculars and AP scores? To be honest, that SAT makes you more of a reach, especially since the math is low. (being the first to go to college is something that could help you if you highlight it in your app though.)

IMO, apply under letters of sciences. uclacee is right in that getting a 3.5 is a lot more difficult than high school, but i’d rather get in and gamble working hard to switch then not get into UCLA at all

How was your Math II SAT subject exam score? For Bioengr I think you need to be darn close to 800 (average for admitted students is probably around 770).

You should probably re-take the SATs one more time as well.
