Just wondering if anyone received an admission fee waiver email notification from Rice recently? Daughter got one and it indicated these are supposedly given for high SAT subject tests. Should this be taken as a good sign or have these been sent out in the thousands to cast a wide net to smart kids? Her friends have not received them and also did fairly well on the Subject tests. Not sure what to think about this.

So what if it were sent to a thousand people? They are trying to get your daughter to apply is all that matters.

There are no guarantees of admission but it is a good thing when a school wants you to apply bad enough that they sent a fee waiver.

As texaspg said, it is simply a marketing tool to applicants that Rice is interested in, given the limited information they have at the time.

I wouldn’t read into it too much. If your daughter is interested in Rice, then definitely apply. Good luck!

Yes she will!

My son also received a waiver, he has a 2400 SAT and a couple of 800 subjects. Being from NJ, he never thought about applying to Rice. Now he is intrigued. Maybe he will apply.

I received one for subject tests (800/800/780/720). I personally don’t think it means that much, but I know that Rice is a good school, so I’m adding it to my list. I live in NY which is one of the main reasons I did not originally consider it.

MrDoctor - OT but why did you not consider it? Didn’t hear about it or not originally interested because of location?

It is funny how some threads evolve into a bragging match.Sigh…
