Admission for International Student

Hi I'm a student from Singapore, so I do the A levels. I'm wondering what are my chances of getting accepted into University of Michigan, NYU's Stern and University of South California.

I'm looking at predicted grades of AAB to ABB for my a levels and a A2 grade for General Paper, as well as SATs grades of 2180. I haven't done the SATs 2 though. Generally a pretty strong extra curricular record, but will I be hampered by weak year one scores, no Special papers and weak O levels (that's the local version of GCSEs)?

Thanks.

is money going to be a factor?

Most schools are not need blind to international students so your ability to pay will be a factor. NYU is stingy in financial aid on a good day and gives even less to international students. Mich is a public school so the amount of FA given to out of state student can be minimal.

Nope money shouldn't really be a problem. I'm worried about my grades though, because they seem rather boderline.

With AABs you are probably in at NYU and Michigan, but with ABBs, you are borderline--especially with low year 1 scores and weak O levels. I don't think you qualify for Univ of Southern California (USC) under either scenario.

You would have a better chance at a Univ of Calif like Santa Barbara, Irvine, or Davis. The reason is that the UCs throw out your year 1 scores, and just concentrates on the later years results. Also, you can stress your ECs at these schools--and that will be a strong factor in your favor.

Good luck.

Right, thanks guys for the replies :)
