Admission for Transfer Student

OK cool!
I already have credit for ENGL 104 and ECON 202 but I’m still going to take 4 classes from that list.

Transfer student can only switch to General Studies after their first semester at A&M, right?
I’ve heard that once you are in Gen. Studies, you can take Acct, info and mgmt.
Am I right?

My friend switched from Petroleum engineering to general studies, took 4 of those classes and got into Mays with a 3.25…

Like I said before, don’t put too many eggs in one basket. Consider another major at A&M as Plan B, or if you are dead set on being a business student, consider somewhere else like Texas State.

Here’s the problem with this:

1) You could potentially get stuck with a bad professor that brings your grade down.
2) You are competiting with 275 other applicants.
3) You hope to get into Mays. What are you going to do if you don’t? You’ll be a junior with a bunch of hours you probably won’t be able to use for any degree plan.

My application went back to step 4; so I will receive a letter within the next few days. But I went to my Howdy portal and I can now start registering for classes for fall 09, as well as optional services such as parking permits and dining. Should I take this an acceptance?

Ive been told by a general studies advisor that it is possible to switch before the first semester, it seems that the general studies advisors know more than any of the other advisors on campus.

[GAP Advisors](http://gest.tamu.edu/Main/advisor.aspx)

these are the people you want to ask

psyclone121, how many boxes do you have in the “MyRecord” tab in howdy portal?

You should be able to enroll in any class you like that doesn’t have restricted enrollment. After your advisor registers you at NSC, just drop the classes you don’t want and add the others. I don’t believe any of the lower level business classes have restricted enrollment since they aren’t taught at Mays.

I’d say it’s good news for you. Mine did the same thing. Congrats.

It’s very confusing. When you look up Accounting in the Howdy system, it says that Acct 209 is for Business majors only.

So can you still take the class even if you are in Liberal arts (Economics)?

I already attended the NSC and register for Math 104, Macro, a science and an elective.
But if I can take INFO or Acct, I would definitely do it.

Thing is, Howdy says I can only add/drop classes on August 27-28th.
So I will probably have to wait…

And yeah Agfa, you are completely right: don’t trust the advisers. Do your research…

whiteoverblue:
I will have another plan if it does not work out. I understand what you’re saying.

I’m fairly set on business, and if not that, meteorology is another interest of mine. Both have completely opposite degree tracks though. If I end up not getting into Mays after my sophomore year, I might have to just try another school to finish my degree. I would rather not, but I might have to.

I just took a look at that, and you’re right. Strange that it’s restricted enrollment. It also looks like all of the sections are full. If you really want to take it, I’d take it at Blinn. It can only help when you do change of curriculum.

Yeah but I think you can take those classes once you switch to General Studies.
I will ask about Blinn…

Blinn is only about 10 minutes away from TAMU so its very possible to fit blinn classes into your schedule, lots of people do it and it saves money

Well, it’s a bit tricky for me.
I already have 43 transfer hours(13 are from AP credit so they probably count) and I need 30 hours graded at A&M in order to transfer internally to Mays. And the max number of hours you can have is 75 apparently…

So I might have to take all my classes at A&M…

Ampzor, I have seven boxes now when I used to have three. The new boxes are preregistration and holds, registration fall 2009, learn about the myrecord tab, and optional services fall 2009.

I also don’t remember if the billing services box was there originally or not, too, but that has aggie bucks tracker, reload aggie bucks, and other things dealing with aggie bucks.

Sounds like your in to me. Congrats.

Thanks man. You heard anything yet or you still thinkin about UT?

I am actually going to UT. I am signing my apartment lease tomorrow :). I really wish A&M would have gotten back to me sooner. That way I would have some time to think. But, since they haven’t I want to play it safe an goto UT since there is no guarantee that I will get into A&M.

hey everyone I just randomly found this thread by googling A&M transfer, and am quite impressed with the 60 pages. So I am already on TEAM Blinn and have applied for full transfer, but have not had an answer yet! this process has been so ridiculous! Is there anyone that was on team blinn that has been accepted yet? i applied to school of education and have a 3.4 at Blinn and 3.142 at A&M so I dont quite understand why im still on step three, hope to find something out this week!

I was on blinn team for one year and got accepted to liberal arts with a 3.1
