I really dont want to go to the others though. Andover is really the only school i want to go to. Im sure all of the other ones are great as well and i will probably apply to a few. do you have to pay for the applications at every school?

i just researched some of the others that were posted and i like: Andover, Exeter, Lawrenceville, Peddie, Groton, and Deerfield but applying to 6 schools? isn’t that kind of a lot for boarding school? but i am sort of new to this so excuse me if i don’t know much =/

For what it is worth, my son found safety in numbers. He applied to 10 BS’s, of which only one rejected him. Because you have about 6 months or more before apps are due, you should have enough time to read about, visit and apply to 10 schools or so. The more shots you take, the greater are the chances you will hit the target.

that it very true but i don’t want to go to boarding school just because my parents want me to or just to go. My parents weren’t really even that open to the idea. I want to go to a school that I really want to go to and that fits my needs. I don’t want to go to any school that accept me. so i think only have like 3-5 that i really would enjoy going to and would be good for me and my needs

i dont JUST want to go to a school because it accepts me******

No one should go to a school just because it accepts you. But you sure can’t go it doesn’t accept you.

There are hundreds of BS’s around the world. Find those that you like. Apply to them. We found at least 10 we liked. Of these 10, we liked some more than others, of course. We saw this venture like applying to college: apply to both reaches and safeties. But, after the entire BS application process, my son selected 10 schools, any of which he would have attended if accepted. Because he was accepted by many of these schools, he had choices, none of which would have been wrong.

Because it has gotten harder each of the past several years to get into the top BS’s, apply to as many BS’s as you like but which you think you have a fair chance of receiving an acceptance offer, to the extent time and interest allows. Our number was 10. But then don’t let some number be your guide; let your heart and soul show you the way.

okay thank you =) which one does your son go to?

Any tips for writing excellent essays?

kks196, my son will enter Hotchkiss as a lower mid this fall. He is quite excited.

Good luck to you in your BS hunt. May all BS’s to which you apply accept you for admission.

oh thanks! that’s so sweet!

well it turns out that my mom is more against BS then i thought, BUT she said MABEY for sophomore year if i really don’t like public school i could go. =( Is is easier to get in as a sophomore then a freshman?

My mom is totally against BS. She has this idea that prep school is filled with upper middle and upper class snobby rich kids who will destroy me :/

@ kks196: I’ll be applying as a sophomore. BS’s accept less sophomores, but I heard the pool is a bit smaller. It is competitive, but I think it would be easier to get in as a freshman since there are more open spots.

well she is totally against it for freshman year! this is gonna be my first year in public school (8th) so in high school she said if i don’t like it after my first year then maybe she will consider it…ugh! i want to go soooo bad! i heard it was easier to get in as a sophomore but i guess not…

Today, as I came home from tennis, I could swear that I won my dad’s approval for applying to BS!!! We were talking about some issues my friends were having (I know. Most people don’t talk about these things with parents, but I had to rant to someone!) and then I told him that I’m trying not to get involved with these things because it’ll hurt my academics, waste my time, etc. After that, we began discussing my public school I go to and all the “bad” things about it. He was pretty surprised at a few things and I’m pretty sure that after I show him everything I’ve prepared, he’ll be sold! :)

Honestly, there are many more bad things about it than applying for BS. :D

Oh i know it! me and my mom are VERY VERY close and i think thats part of the reason she doesnt want me to go. She thinks that i will need her with me for high school but its not like we will have no contact. And she knows some of the stuff i have told her about public school(all the bad stuff) but idk i will talk to her after this year and see how it goes. But i think it would be a really good experience and it would be a great education…so hopefully she will be able to see that too =)

and thank you for sharing your situation too! boarderkid: your going to be a sophomore this year?

Aww I think my mom is just stuck on the whole “prep school = snobs, upper class, mean, rude, awful, preppy people that will destroy you” stereotype!

No, I’m going to be a freshman this year, but I’ll apply for sophomore year.

oh okay so your only a year older than me =)…and im sure some of them are snobs but you will find those people everywhere and there is always a mix of people. And if your not influenced easily im sure the snobs wont “ruin” you and thats even if you chose to be around those kind of people. what school do you want to get into?

I don’t exactly know which school I want to get into. Last year I really wanted to attend Peddie, but was waitlisted. This year, I’m not too sure…how about you?

i would really LOVE to get into Andover, thats the only school that i REALLY want to go to
