I'm a senior living in California. My class has around 685 people, and I'm in the top 50%. I would really like to know my chances at getting into some schools, namely,

UCLA, UCSD, USC, UC davis, or University of Texas at Austin

My stats are:

weighted gpa: 3.73
unweighted gpa: 2.95

SAT: 2230 (taking it again in Oct)

SAT 2's MATH: 790 and im taking physics in Nov

Around 90 hours of community service
3 years on the tennis team
3 years of speech and debate
Tennis Club
Stand Club

Official Internship at Oracle Corporation

National Merit Scholar

Ap Scholar

I've participated in big competitions and tournaments such as the annual Tech Challenge, at the Tech Museum. I've won a bunch of awards.

I realize my gpa is pretty bad, but I'm really bad at taking tests. Im also spending a lot of time on my personal statements.

Please be honest guys, what are my chances of getting into any of the colleges mentioned above?

If theres any other good colleges anyone knows of, that I can get into, I'd be grateful to know!

I hate to say it, but you have a very small chance at any of those schools (although at Davis I think you have a shot). I’d recommend aiming lower.

Keep in mind, by the way, that if you’re bad at taking tests, you may not WANT to go to a really hard college. In college courses, tests will be at LEAST 50% of your grade. Almost all of the time they will be significantly more. Don’t set yourself up for failure by going to a hard school if you can’t take tests well.

i reallly dont think you have a chance at any of those schools. I’d shoot for Davis or Irvine, but it’s not likely unless u have something super special. Your ECs aren’t that great either. I’d say you’ll get into Riverside and possibly Irvine.

And how do u manage to get over a 2200 and national merit but less than a 3.5 unweighted?

You need a minimum 3.0 to even apply to a UC in state.

State schools are the worst places to apply in your situation. They are very numbers oriented. Some mid level private schools trying to raise their SAT average are more likely to work with you if your family can afford them.

U Texas and U Michigan are one of the top universities in the nation. I don’t think you cut it with that GPA. I would say yes if you had spectacular extra curriculars but you just dont… I’d say go for Irvine and Riverside.

For UT, the rule of kids that live in Texas and who are in the 10% category are atomically in. However because it is a public school and very competitive to get in for students who live in Texas your chances are very slim since you live out of state…
