Admission Interview at Middlebury

Did anyone get admission interview at Midd? My S applied for ED at Midd. I am quite curious.

They no longer offer on-campus interviews. If you’re talking about alumni interviews, he should be contacted soon.

But don’t freak if he doesn’t. Depends on where you live and the number of alumni who have signed on to be alumni interviewers. Son didn’t have an interview and was admitted, so not having an interview isn’t the worst thing to happen.

Thanks. Appreciate it.

They may not offer interviews until the ED application deadline passes. Just a thought. Anyone know otherwise?

That is true. ED dead line is 15th Nov. Dedede, you might be right.

D got an email yesterday from a local alum. For whatever it’s worth, she filed her supplement Oct 31…still hasn’t submitted the rest yet…

That is great news Classof2015. All the best to your daughter. Where are you guys? New England?

^Thanks! Good luck to your S too! We live just outside NYC.

My S just was informed of alumni interview. He just called me. He seems thrilled over phone.

Anyone know anything about the interviews? I guess if they’re alumni interviews then they’ll be somewhat casual, no? Are they the: “tell me about yourself” kind or the “ask me questions” kind?

P.S. I also submitted my supplementary materials on 10/31… Nothing so far… Should I send an e-mail? Or would that just be annoying?

I am positive you should be getting your interview email soon, Shewy2015. I have very limited idea of alum interviews. My personal experience in these kind of situations one could use to have an intelligent conversation with the person interviewing. Then you can get beyond standard “tell me about yourself” or “ask me” kind of questions and move on.

I don’t think the alumni interviews are standardized in any way, and perhaps are of little importance unless you make a bad impression. Both sons interviewed by alumni-one by a recent grad and his Midd GF, who seemed intent on convincing him how “really cool” Midd was, second S by a physician about his mother’s age who was considerably more serious.

Mine just emailed me! I’m stoked  Our interests couldn’t be much different (he was a private wealth manager and investment banker, and he’s into hockey), but he seemed very nice in the email, and I’m very grateful that he’s interviewing me. Hopefully the flow of conversation isn’t hindered by our lack of common interests.

Is it bad that I haven’t been contacted for an interview yet and I applied ED?

According to the school’s website, it doesn’t mean anything if you’re not contacted:
Middlebury offers to as many applicants as possible the opportunity to interview with a local alumnus/a in the applicant’s home or school community. After submitting an application to Middlebury, the applicant may be contacted by an alumni volunteer for an interview if an alumni representative is locally available…All applicants should remember, however, that an interview is not a requirement for admission, and the absence of an interview will not have a negative impact on the applicant’s admissions decision.

Due to the high volume of calls and e-mails that the Admissions Office receives in November and January, please refrain from calling or e-mailing the Admissions Office during the beginning of the interview period to request an interview. The alumni volunteer assigned to you will be in contact by phone or e-mail, so please be sure that your information is as accurate and complete as possible on the application, and check your spam folder to recover any missed e-mails. If you are living at a boarding school, we will use your school year address (as supplied on your Common Application) to assign an interview. Any mistakes may cause a delay in your interview assignment.

I just had my interview today at a nearby Panera. It was an hour long, and the alum was extremely nice and easy to talk to - a really, really great guy. We discussed a lot, ranging from my ECs to Dan Brown books. haha I think it went pretty well.

Just now, I did some research and found out that I voted for a relative of his in the last election for my county. Small world!

You can vote…? COOL!

Oops. ^Posted before I was ready. I live in NYC and I’ve submitted everything and still nada… I know not having an interview won’t count against me, but not having one won’t work in my favor either… OY! :s
