Admission into Cornell???

Hi!

I’m a sophomore in high school and I’m curious to know what kind of work and extracurriculars Cornell looks for when admitting students. I’m on Varsity Tennis (will be throughout all of high school), the school chorus, TV studio, French Club, Student Council (home room representative), Ambassador Club, my school drama and my school musical, I referee recreational soccer games on the weekend (paid job), and this summer I volunteered my time to help out with a theater camp for kids. It would be a great help if someone could tell me what other extracurriculars/community service/paid work I can do that will make my college application look impressive in a few years. Also, I’m interested in majors involving finance, so what kind of extracurriculars can I do that involve finance? Thanks:)

Really just get involved in things that you are passionate about and show your commitment, like tennis. There are not tried and true ECs that Cornell looks for. Applicants have a wide and diverse set of interests. They look to see if you are the right fit, through your academic transcripts and rigor of curriculum, along with your ECs and most importantly through your Cornell essay

My expereince has been that it is a misconception that ECs should line up with your intended major. Leadership, committment, & excellence in your chosen EC appears to be more important than what the EC actually is.

Don’t do anything for the express purpose of pumping up your college application. Do what you love.
