Admission into UF?

Hey! I recently got back my SAT scores, and was a little disappointed, and it worried me a bit because I really want to get into the University of Florida.

Here are my stats:
UW GPA: 3.7
W GPA: 5.0
SAT: 1790
Class Rank: 50/260 (very very competitive school)

Currently in the IB Diploma Programme, in my Junior year; taking 2 Dual Enrollment courses; 2 FLVS honors; plan on taking 4 DE over the summer towards my intended major (Engineering, so physics and Intro to Engineering). My only elective is taken up by the PLTW/AP Engineering program and I have passed the EOCs for that so far.

I have the full IB course load (6 IB this year, 6 IB next year)

My extra curriculars include:
President of School Website club (NEXUS)
VP of American Red Cross Youth Chapter
Member of Student Council
Member of Indian River Lagoon Cleanup Club
Member of National Honor Society
Next year I should be able to join Beta Club

Not sure if this is an EC:
American Civil Liberties Union: Currently leading the effort to change the Non-discrimination policy in a few counties.

I have 150+ community service hours (as a part of my school and IB) at various places: blood drives, animal shelters, beach cleanups

I am Hispanic, if that helps.

I’m disappointed in my SAT score, so with this new SAT in March, that’s probably the last I’ll ever take the SAT, and move on towards the ACT.

In addition, if there are other schools you think I’d be a good candidate for, I’d really appreciate it. I’m looking for a good electrical engineering school, with a Study Abroad Program.

Thank you so much.

Hi Alexhi  I was recently accepted into UF, and this is my honest opinion.
As far as class ranking and GPA are concerned, you should be fine for UF admissions. However, I would definitely work on your SAT. That’s the only portion dragging you down in my opinion! I would definitely shoot for a 2100+ for security or a 31+ on ACT with Writing.

Also, I’m a little confused? Is your W GPA cumulative? What scale does your school calculate GPAs on?

@anzhilin Thanks for responding. That is my cumulative weighted and unweighted. Ive taken a lot of honors, ap, IB, and DE courses so it’s a lot higher than my unweighted.

Congrats by the way! I’m going towards the ACT now, because for some reason, I don’t test well on the SAT. ACT practice I got a 31, so I think I’ll do a lot better on that, thanks!

Don’t worry about it  these tests are different in nature, so it’s normal for certain people to do better! That’s definitely a good score though. If you study hard to maximize it, it’ll solidify your chances of getting into UF for sure.
As decisions were coming back, I noticed that most people who got in at last broke 2000 on their SATs or 30 on their composite ACT. However they do have other programs that are given (PaCE and Innocation Academy) outside of the traditional program.
