Admission Notification occurs on March 31st.

It's official: Admission notification gets sent out on March 31.

i havent recieved anything from this school..since i applied..
i only got a postcard saying my app. is completed...
is that a bad sign?

Chc2006, my daughter received the same thing. I don't think that receiving a postcard has any impact on admission decisions. Sadly, we just have to wait and see.

bah! last school im waiting to hear from, i would like an answer!

Do you think the mail is going to come today? I mean if it was mailed yesterday (the 31st), and I live in MA, and only a few hours from Providence, RI..or will I have to wait 'til Monday...blah this sucks haha. I highly doubt I'm going to get in anyways.

Well I guess not. The mail just came & there was nothing from RISD. So that must mean Monday will be the day!

I'm from Maine and when I called last week admissions said letters may not go out until early next week....Mon-Wed

ughhh lol that's annoying. it's the only school i'm still waiting to hear from & i'm not even sure if it's one of my top choices..haha. but thanks for letting me know about that.

My hunch is that RISD's number of applications has just kept rapidly growing, and that admissions hasn't adjusted quickly enough. Given that they don't expect the last pieces of the application -- the hometest -- to be submitted til Feb. 15th (as I recall), they may need to move that date up -- perhaps by two weeks or a month -- or just sign on more admissions reviewers.

how do you know they sent everything out on the 31st?

i called and they said they were sending everything out on monday.

two friends of mine called today and found out that they were accepted! exciting!!!

i just got the letter today.. and i'm accepted!

My daughter just got waitlisted at RISD. Boohoo. OH well.

Sorry to hear that, Taxguy. You and she probably know that being waitlisted at RISD is still quite an accomplishment, but I know that doesn't take the present day sting out of not having a flat-out acceptance. When you hear about all the acceptances, it's easy to forget just how difficult it is to get into RISD. It's tough, really tough, and when you see the student work there, you understand why. So many don't even come close to being waitlisted. From what I hear, the waitlist at RISD actually works though. That is, a good number of waitlisted students are eventually offered admission. Good luck to your daughter. I'm sure she'll do well wherever she ends up.

Thanks Alia, yes, being on the RISD waitlist is an honor considering how many applications they receive. My daughter was not an artsy person all of her life. She just realized that she wanted to pursue design at the start of her senior year. Thus, she developed her portfolio in a little over a year. She has come a long way in a short period of time.

Also, she is fairly high up in the waitlist, according to the RISD admission's officer that I spoke with. They figure that she has a 50-50 shot of being called off the waitlist. Frankly, both I and my daughter aren't that distraught. She has great alternatives in other schools, who actually gave her scholarship money.

Good luck, Taxguy and daughter! I hope she gets off the waitlist if RISD is where she really wants to go. I understand why she did not apply for the earliest decision since her portfolio was probably not ready. For others applying next year, apply before the first deadline of December 15th! I don't know about RISD, but students usually have a little better chance getting in schools with the earlier decision deadlines (not to be confused with ED--RISD does not have ED).
