Does anyone have an estimate on when the BFA MT notification decisions will be communicated ?
I think they just roll out offers at a varied pace some quickly and some very slowly. My son was a scheduled audition (not a walk-in) at NYC unifieds and had a wonderful audition, was invited to continue to their dance call and had a good time with the dance. He was notified within 2 weeks afterwards. Some who auditioned at NYC have yet to be notified one way or another though. I think they must have a ton of applications to go through at this point so I would guess it will be a wait, but maybe you can call admissions to see how long it generally takes? We heard first from the College of Theatre by letter in two weeks (with a caution that my S had to also be accepted academically), then we say his portal was updated with a letter that referenced his BFA, academic acceptance and scholarship information, then finally he received a big package from Admissions. Best wishes as you wait. This is really much harder than we thought it would be. I know from our BW experience that it is very frustrating to know that a school is still auditioning while it has already offered for some kids, but as far as Temple goes, many are still being considered and I think it is a largish class with lots of acceptances to yield their target number.
For the record, the letters received from Temple are a bit confusing. Our letter dated 1/27 if from the School of Theater Film and Media Arts and says: “I am pleased to inform you that you have successfully completed the audition requirements for the BFA in Musical Theater degree program.” And to be honest we had a family conference as to what this meant, but what this wording means as far as we can tell is that you are admitted artistically pending academic acceptance. Soon afterwards we received a letter on his portal dated 1/31 that is from Admissions and says “Congratualtions!..you have even granted admission…to Temple University’s School of Theater, Film and Media Arts, Musical Theater major on the Main Campus.” I called and confirmed. My son is a BFA candidate with a MT major. Not sure what letters say if your child is wait listed or rejected or redirected to a MT concentration or Theatre major.
My son received his acceptance into the BFA MT program via email last night.
@cwp1013 Congratulations to your son on his acceptance!
May I ask what date your son auditioned? I’m trying to gauge how long they take to notify of artistic acceptance/rejection. It has only been a week since my D’s audition – though it feels MUCH longer!
@daughtersdreams sorry for delayed reply. I just saw this. My son auditioned at Unifieds in Chicago. Best of luck to your daughter.
Did anyone else do a walk-in at Temple in Chicago? My daughter has been accepted to MT, but when I called today I was told her academic admission wouldn’t be determined until the third week in April. She has strong academics, so I am not worried about her acceptance, but I can’t get financial aid information until she is accepted, and I hate to spend money on a cross country visit, if it isn’t going to be financially viable. I was wondering if anyone else had done a late application and gotten the academic admission any faster?
@KelviVan I did a walk-in audition with them at Chicago Unifieds, and while emailing with the head of the department he said that I was accepted into the department pending academic acceptance to the university. I, too, am in the top of my class, so I wasn’t worried about that part, but I called admissions this morning and they said there was just one button they forgot to push to finalize it and send me my information, but now that has been completed and I’ve been admitted! So you might try calling again to see if they can speed up the process at all!
@KelviVan and @toxiclevi Does anyone else get the impression that Temple’s admissions office and IT office need a serious overhaul? I get the feeling that the reason the MT letters go out saying you’ve met our criteria but now wait for admissions is because the MT department knows how overwhelmed and unorganized the admissions/IT office is. Just added one more question to ask when we visit Temple over spring break: Do you notice any problems with administration or IT and does it impact you once you are into the school?
@MomofMTBoy I have noticed that very few of the colleges have it all together when it comes to IT or online portals and such. From the very small colleges to the big universities, it’s a crap shoot as to how and when anyone gets notified. I think the issue is software and app upgrades that cost a lot of money. Rather put up with the inconsistencies and have funds channeled to scholarships.
My D is a freshman at Temple and while we didn’t have issues last year with admissions (she is at Tyler and was admitted to both at the same time) she’s said that the site is very confusing and not easy to navigate. Last month when she was home for spring break, we tried to find her financial aid award and never managed to discover where they were hiding it.
But like @daughtersdreams mentioned, most schools have very ineffective online portals. It’s relatively new for them and I think no one really understands how bad the user experience is especially to newly admitted students and families.
