Admission Notifications

Less than 24 hours to go!
Are they going to mail it (USPS) or send it by UPS as they did for the CW notification? If it is "UPS Next Day Air Saver" everyone will receive the decision on Monday, I think. If anyone of you do get yours on Saturday, please be sure to report it here.
I am hoping for the best. But I am, as usual, prepared for the worst!

Also, is Olin going to mail acceptance letters in 8 1/2'' by 11'' envelopes and rejection letters in regular white envelopes?

Small point, really. Obviously, I'm not incredibly nervous. :)

I remember from CW that acceptances would be sent via UPS, but rejections would be USPS.

I live about 30 miles away. So I guess Saturday is Judgment Day for me. Oh, and I get to find out about MIT and probably Caltech on Saturday too. Meh. It kinda sucks to hear from your top three choices on the same day before all the other schools you applied to.

Oh well.

Bring it on.

Elvis has left the building! i*

This means that admission decisions should

begin

arriving tomorrow (Friday, March 16) however, it is out of our control at this point. While we aim to have a decision in your hands by the end of next week? we cannot guarantee its arrival date!

And pardon me for getting sentimental, but I just want to update and share a thought I posted in the aforementioned blog several weeks ago:

You all are such an amazing group of young people - your applications were phenomenal, your essays made us laugh and cry, your r?sum?s made us feel like we have done nothing with our own lives! But in the end, we are a very very small school and we cannot admit everyone? no matter how much we adore you and enjoyed meeting you at Candidates? Weekends! This is, by far, the toughest part of my job. And so, yes, many of you will be disappointed in our decisions. I hate having to say that? but if there is one thing I?ve learned in all my years and experience (boy, that makes me sound old!) it?s that things happen for a reason - regardless of whether you know or even understand the reason at the time. Each of you will find your place for the next four year and it will be awesome? even if it doesn?t turn out to be Olin College.

I mean every word of that. You guys are why I love what I do. So... thank you! Thanks for sharing yourselves and your experiences with us - it has been a true joy.

That's it. I don't want to fry anyone's computer with the sappiness oozing from this post.

Best wishes,
Allison

Allison,

Will you disclose how many are accepted and how many are on the waitlist?

Good to know, I'm already at my front door waiting for that truck. Hope its a big brown one.

If you are not there to receive the letter, UPS will leave a note, I think. I know my parents won't be there to receive it today, if I get one. But when I get home, if there is a note from UPS about a letter from Olin, I think there is a good chance that I am in!

First - sorry for the very ugly formatting on my oh-so-sappy quote below. Don't quite know what happened, but oh well, y'all are smart! You can figure out what I'm trying to say!

Regarding the request from None... and essentially an updated version of what Dean Nolan presented at CW:

100 Admitted
10 on Wait List with deferred year option
20 on Wait List without deferred year option

There is no ranking on either list.

Congratulations! Were they sent using a one day service (i.e. is not getting anything today bad news?).

Hey everyone. I'm a waitlister from 2010 and I can't wait to meet you all, I've heard great things :D. If anyone wants to talk, my sn on AIM is ShrodingersRobot.

Yes, it was 1-day service. It should arrive today everywhere. Good luck to you all!

Make that three in!

Yay, I'm in!

@beantowngal

Admissions did not make that guarantee, so be careful saying that. I know of one person in my class whose letter was lost in the mail.

Congrats to those accepted! If anyone wants to hear the perspective of an Olin Freshman, my AIM SN is SpaceTycoon1

Thanks guys! My son just got the big envelope too!!

Congrats, everyone :)

PS: Feel free to email me (jessi [at] students [dot] olin [dot] edu) or IM me (a2wheeldtricycle) if you ever want to talk about Olin, life, etc.
