Recently, I decided to transfer from Community College to University, and I applied last fall to transfer. Luckily, I got accepted to U.R.I from a community college in Rhode island last week. But the acceptance letter has condition which I don’t understand. It says:
"Your acceptance to the University was based on the information you provided at the time you applied for admission. The offer of admission is contingent upon the following conditions:
- Satisfactory completion of the current semester and that you will continue to perform in the classroom at a level comparable to the one presented to the admission committee."
On the application I submitted to them, I put what courses I’m taking this year which are Chemistry, English, Calculus I, and Micro-economics for fall semester last year(Already done) and Calculus 2, Digital Electronics, Java programming, Engineering Physics in the spring, which is now. But my first 2 weeks in Calculus 2 was terrible and I don’t feel Iike I can survive in that class so I withdrew from the class yesterday. Now I’m left with 3 classes.
Would i get denied if I didn’t finish calculus 2 with 3 classes that I stated on my application? Do they care if I withdrew one of them even though I didn’t change the classes that I provided on the application? Would they look at my final transcript and check if all of them are completed? I only withdrew one though.
@albert.gregor18 Is this class a prerequisite for your major? In that case, yes, it might be a deal breaker. Contact them and ask about this. The condition, as far as I understand, means that you need to finish all of your current classes with satisfactory grades - check with them what GPA they require for spring semester (normally it’s at least 2.5). They will definitely look at your final transcript that includes spring grades, so they will see that something is missing.
Hello, I’m also facing a similar problem. I withdrew from a course this semester. I needed to lessen my course load in order to focus on my health. I recently had to spend some time in the hospital. The course that I withdrew from is actually not going to be accepted for credit at the school I’m planning on transferring to. I just received my letter of acceptance and it says, “your admission decision is contingent upon successful upon the successful completion of all courses with a cumulative 2.0 GPA or higher.” I have to send in another transcript at the end of the semester. Should I e-mail my admission counselor now to tell them about my withdrawal, or should I not say anything unless they ask me when they receive the updated transcript? Will my admission be revoked? The course isn’t a prereq for my major it’s just a class that satisfies my current school’s core curriculum. This is the only class I have withdrawn from so far in my academic career and I did it solely for health concerns.
@lenocturne I forgot to tag you in my comment above this one. Your help is greatly appreciated!
@thursdayschild If I were you, I would definitely contact an admission counselor and try to explain the situation. Health issues are definitely a better reason to drop a class than poor grades. Do you have any paperwork from your doctor? Check with the counselor if they can accept that. I don’t see why they would not.
And please try not to worry about this too much. If it is not a prerequisite, it should not affect their admission decision.
