Admission Possible?

I know that the average ACT for UCLA is 27.

What are my chances? What should I do to improve them?

I'm study for the ACT currently.

My school only offers 7 AP classes. By the time I graduate, I would have taken 6 APs.

how do you improve test scores? you need to study, do a lot of mind games that require you to think fast and accurately. Take tons of practice tests and try to develop an understanding of the system they use.

your SAT IIs are pretty good compared to your other tests but i think you can improve your math a little more.

study especially your english/writing. i see that you're the opposite of me. i have strength in english/writing and weakness in reading..good luck!

and be thankful that you're in state, which i'm not!

UCLA: Slight Reach

I'll make sure I'll study especially hard to get in. UCLA ties with around 6 schools as one of the top priority schools.

I'vre revised my college list. Now, UCLA, USC and Harvard tie.

you're obviously bad at standardized testing...take a course if you can afford it or get a tutor

Your screen name says otherwise :)

I'm using 2 prep books for the ACT. I'm using the real ACT prep guide and the princeton review book.

If I don't do well on the ACT, I might get a tutor.

My screen name doesn't say otherwise. i chose Harvard to be in my screenname because it's one of my top choices. I didn't say Harvard was the only college I want to attend.

That's a massive load of ECs. How do you remain a significant participant in every single one of them?

The trick is not caring about most of them ;)...I don't know, I never quite got the whole "load on the EC train, maybe colleges will like I have a bunch of random stuff".

I've participated in a few activities in each club to be at least partially active. In nature club, I took part in a tree planting. In debate and speech club, I took part in speech contests and judged in school debates, etc.

As founder and possible president of a few clubs(Acad. Dec., Model UN, JSA, NHS), I'm going to be busy managing activities.

I try to balance out my work load, but I'll be fine. I won't have a 4th period, so I'll have lots of things to do. Instead, I'm taking 2 online APs and 1 college French class.

I chose to take part in those activities because I'm interested in them. They may look random, but I'm interested in a variety of things.

I might write my essay about my passion to get and bring knowledge to the community or serving the community. Then, i would connect it to future careers, such as Senator, Dean...

some people do have A LOT of stuff going on... last year I remember asking for my chances and I had nothing to put since all I did after school was playing tennis for 4 years... I mean we practice til 4:30 year round so no time for all other clubs really...

Your dedication must have gotten you to UCLA.

Did UCLA recruit you for tennis?

Did you get in because of your essays?

prolly essays... I didn't get recruited for tennis of course seeing that we are at least top 5 in the country... but i guess UCLA understood that because of practice I didn't have much time to participate in other clubs and stuff

You might want to cut back on the EC if that would help in any way to improve your SAT/ACT scores, cuz they aren't very good at all [sorry I'm blunt.] Other than that, I'd say "Reach."

It's good that you kept up with tennis and you got into UCLA without other clubs.

I'm in band and I'm part of 10+ activities. I just realized that I'm in a lot of activities.

Hopefully, I'll get into UCLA. I just need to raise my test scores.

I balance all of my activities. I don't think they affected my scores. I've been getting straight As all through high school.

It's hard to keep up with AP Lit reading and ACT studying because I end up being on track on one or the other(in a fluctuating way).

I really think it's time for you to cut down on your EC activities. Even though you may not be doing all those things for show, you don't want the reader of your application to think that you're part of many orgs but lack focus.

Perhaps stick with activities that speak closely with regards to your real passion. Concentrate on upping your scores - it's better to have better stats from your senior year vs your junior year. I suppose to show that you're on the right path.

kick53rv3, that's what I would imagine. imo, any decent EC takes up considerable amounts of time. To me, it's unconceivable to be reasonably involved in more than 2-3 activities at a time without sacrificing something. Certainly the events scheduled by orgs will conflict.
